Enhancing junior community football is the key focus in 2023 for the Metro South Regional Development Council (RDC) following last month’s Annual General Meeting in Applecross.
Over 50 affiliated clubs, volunteers and life members attended the meeting, which featured a West Australian Football Commission presentation, along with an RDC volunteers workshop seeking feedback from clubs on some of the key strategic outcomes relating to the sport at junior community level.
At the meeting, the RDC confirmed the reappointment of Anthony Doig as East Fremantle’s Junior Club Delegate, while Ryan Ramage joined the board as RDC Secretary.
Corey Ranger, WAFC Head of Club Development and Volunteers, was thrilled with the appointments.
“It’s fantastic to have Anthony and Ryan part of the Metro South RDC for the next 2 years.
Both have provided a tremendous amount of service to community football over many years, and have a vast array of experiences which will be valuable assets to the region,” Ranger said.
The theme of the meeting was to acknowledge the efforts of volunteers across the region and set the path forward to the start of the junior season.
Metro South RDC Chair, Karen Wheatland, thanked clubs for their efforts last year.
“Our strong 2022 participation figures are a credit to the efforts of our RDC board, WAFC District staff, Community Clubs and our large volunteer base.
Since becoming Chair last year, we have undergone a period of great change.
With 2022 being another year of strong progress and growth, we continue to take transformative steps towards the future, driven by our RDC vision and our clear strategic agenda.
I would also like to thank my fellow Directors, who continue to steer the game so diligently and expertly, and our WAFC team, in what has been a progressive year on so many fronts.
My gratitude also extends to outgoing Director, Glenn Liddelow who has been a valuable Delegate for the South Fremantle Clubs throughout his term.
I look forward to the excitement that 2023 brings, with continued stakeholder alignment and buy-in remaining a strong focus as we acknowledge our common interests and act with a unity of purpose to pursue our common goals.
It will take courage and boldness to make the right decisions for the broader good of the game,” Wheatland said.
The Metro South’s Peel and Fremantle Conference competitions begin on Friday April 28.
