Guys in green get the green light to AFLMonday, January 16, 2023 - 1:08 PM - by Rachael Osborne

Two West Australian umpires have been announced as the newest 2023 AFL umpiring squad editions.

Jordan Fry, a seasoned pro with 119 senior games and a WAFL League Grand Final under his belt has solidified his place after being an AFL Rookie for the past two seasons.

He is joined by Cam Jones who has amassed 65 senior games and was an umpire in last year’s WAFL League Grand Final.

Both Fry and Jones are well known in the Western Australian ranks having both received Montgomery Medals, presented to the best umpire afield during that particular season.

WAFC Umpiring Manager Dean Margetts said this was an exciting achievement for the men, and he is unsurprised they’ve been elevated.

“Jordan and Cam being elevated to the 2023 AFL Senior List is the perfect way for us to start the 2023 season. It is a testament to the quality of umpires they both are, but it also rubber stamps the strength of our WAFL talent pathway program we have in place,” Margetts said.

“They are both talented and high-character umpires with dedicated coaches supporting their talent always equals good outcomes.”

Speaking further to their praise, Margetts said Jordan and Cam lead the way in fitness and conditioning in the WAFL team and they are great role models.

“They demonstrate that if you are patient, coachable and invested in your conditioning then good things can happen,”

“We are thrilled to see both Jordan and Cam hitting the pinnacle of umpiring in the country.” Margetts said.
