West Australians prepare for 2023 AFL Academy Induction CampWednesday, December 14, 2022 - 12:55 PM

Four West Australians will be part of the 2023 AFL Academy induction camp in Melbourne this weekend.

Daniel Curtin (Claremont), Mitchell Edwards (Peel Thunder),Riley Hardeman (Swan Districts), and Koltyn Tholstrup (Subiaco), pictured, have been invited to the Academy, which features a selection of the most talented 17-year-old footballers across the country.

The 30 players selected in this year's Academy program will be eligible in the 2023 AFL Draft.

Players will participate in high performance and personal development programs throughout the 2023 season. Program content will be delivered through a mixture of face-to-face and online modules.

The program has been established to best prepare players for entry into elite football programs.

This week’s induction camp will see players engage in a range of football and education sessions.

The camp will begin with a training session at The Hangar, the home of Essendon Football Club, from midday on Friday, December 16.

This will be followed by an education session and team-bonding activity.

The squad will also train at Hawthorn's Waverley Park from 10:00am on Saturday, December 17 and Carlton's IKON Park on Sunday, December 18 from 1:00pm.

National Academy Manager Tarkyn Lockyer says its  “We are very excited about the high level of talent within this group of future AFL stars and look forward to having the squad come together as a collective for the first time.

“Being part of the 2023 AFL Academy will provide players access to elite coaching and facilities and give them first-hand experience of the professionalism and standards required to make it at the highest level.

“As well as being an opportunity to engage in high performance and personal development sessions, the camp also gives players the opportunity to challenge themselves against talented peers from across the country.”

An induction camp for the 2023 AFLW Academy will take place in January. Further details will be announced ahead of the camp.
