WA has enjoyed a superb start to the 2022 Toyota AFL National Inclusion Carnival being played in South Australia.
The West were highly competitive on the opening day of action and currently sit fourth on the table with four wins, two losses and a draw.
One of the side’s defeats came against the powerful Vic Metro combination.
Standout performances for WA were produced by David Hallows, Anthony Kalimeris, Lyndsy Ashworth, Charlie Cronin, and Kyron Timms.
Day 2 will consist of two more lightning carnival games to decide who will participate in the Division 1 or 2 Championship games.
It should be another fantastic day in the Barossa Valley at Angaston Football Club, which is the junior club of West Coast Eagles Premiership Captain Shannon Hurn.
Hayden Marchetto, Executive Officer WA All Abilities Football Association Inc, was delighted with the side’s results.
“We’re so proud of this group and how they’ve performed so far in the Carnival.
The joy and excitement from the players on game day must be seen to be believed,” Marchetto said.
The AFL National Inclusion Carnival is an annual event for athletes with an intellectual disability, with every state and territory represented.
The Carnival not only provides Australia’s most talented footballers the chance to represent their State/Territory, but it’s also an opportunity to showcase the ability of footballers with an intellectual disability to the broader community.
The event is played under traditional Australian football rules, with adjustments to the playing numbers with 12 v 12 and four players on each bench.
