WA Dozen Invited to 2022 NAB AFL Draft CombineTuesday, August 9, 2022 - 9:52 AM - by Mark Readings

Twelve West Australians have been asked to attend this year’s NAB AFL Draft Combine.

West Australian Football Commission State Talent Manager Adam Jones is proud of the players.

“Having 12 players invited is a good result, and while it doesn’t guarantee a player will get drafted, it’s a good sign that clubs have a strong level of interest in you,” Jones said.

The emergence of several WA players excites Jones.

“There are several players in the group who AFL clubs would not have known much about 12 months ago.

Reuben Ginbey, Jed Adams, Tyrell Dewar, Steely Green and Harry Cole all played state football for the first time this year and have certainly elevated themselves in the eyes of recruiters,” he said.

The combine brings together the best players in the country for a series of athletic tests them so AFL clubs can compare results against each other.

It is also an opportunity for recruiters to interview players and get their medical staff to screen them.

“The combine helps recruiter validate what they think they have seen when watching games throughout the year.

It is not the be all and end all but good results at the combine can help players elevate themselves.?

Brad Hill ran an extremely impressive 3km time trial in his Draft year which no doubt helped elevate his stocks amongst recruiters,” said Jones.

The AFL has invited a total of 67 players to the 2022 NAB AFL Draft Combine.

The Combine will be held in Melbourne from Friday October 7 to Sunday October 9 and will be the first time a National Combine has been staged since 2019.

Among the tests include the vertical jump, running vertical jump, 20-metre sprint, agility test and a 2km time trial.

AFL Talent Ambassador Kevin Sheehan said the 2022 NAB AFL Draft Combine provided a great opportunity for players to showcase their physical ability ahead of this year’s NAB AFL Draft.

“The Draft Combine sees the best players from across Australia come together to showcase their abilities in front of AFL clubs,” Sheehan said.

“The players invited to the 2022 NAB AFL Draft Combine are considered by AFL clubs to be the leading prospects for the 2022 NAB AFL Draft.

“We are very excited about the high level of talent within this group of future stars of the AFL and it is extremely pleasing to have all states and territories represented as we return to a national Combine for the first time in three years.,” he said.
