SOUTH Fremantle has made more history in the WAFLW competition winning consecutive games for the first ever time after a win over West Perth in the lone match of Round 9 on Sunday.
There was just the one match played over the Easter Weekend in the 2022 WAFLW competition and that took place on Sunday afternoon at Joondalup's Pentanet Stadium.
In the end, South Fremantle proved too strong running out 9.3 (57) to 3.4 (22) winners to make it consecutive wins in the WAFLW competition for the first time in their third season.
Following nine rounds of the 2022 WAFLW season, East Fremantle remains on top of the ladder as the only undefeated team with a perfect 7-0 record.
Claremont sits in second position with a 6-1 record and by far the best percentage in the competition with Swan Districts (4-3) and Peel Thunder (3-4) rounding out the top four positions.
South Fremantle (3-5), Subiaco (2-5) and West Perth (0-7) are the teams outside the finals positions after nine rounds.
It will be back to a full set of fixtures in Round 10 of the WAFLW season starting on Saturday with Swan Districts hosting East Fremantle at Steel Blue Oval.
The other two Round 10 matches take place on Sunday afternoon with West Perth playing Peel Thunder at Pentanet Stadium and Claremont taking on Subiaco at Claremont's Revo Fitness Stadium.
WAFLW PREMIERSHIP SEASON – ROUND 9
WEST PERTH 3.4 (22) lost to SOUTH FREMANTLE 9.3 (57)
The lone game for Round 9 in the WAFLW competition pitted the two newest teams up against one another with West Perth hosting South Fremantle on Sunday at Joondalup's Pentanet Stadium.
After the inaugural WAFLW season in 2019, South Fremantle entered the competition in 2020 and now West Perth in 2022, and they locked horns for the second time this season on Sunday afternoon.
Their first meeting was back in Round 1 of this season at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with South Fremantle winning their first ever WAFLW match defeating West Perth 10.14 (74) to 0.0 (0).
Since then, the Bulldogs have also notched a second win in the competition while the Falcons have their moments of competitiveness setting up Sunday's battle at Joondalup.
South Fremantle came into Sunday's game fresh off beating Subiaco by 40 points last Friday night while West Perth were playing their first game since losing to Peel Thunder by 118 points back in Round 7 in Mandurah.
It was an entertaining start to the contest as well with both teams managing to kick two goals apiece in the first quarter.
That marked West Perth's best ever start to a WAFLW game but it was the Bulldogs who managed to take a two-point lead into the quarter-time break.
Both teams managed two scoring attempts apiece in the second quarter but it was South Fremantle who kicked another two goals while West Perth kicked two behinds.
That saw the Bulldogs take a 12-point advantage into half-time.
South Fremantle was able to blow the contest wide open in the third quarter by holding West Perth scoreless while kicking five goals themselves to more than double their first half score.
That saw the Bulldogs open up a 42-point lead by three quarter-time and then go on to record the 9.3 (57) to 3.4 (22) victory.
It's the first ever time South Fremantle has managed to win consecutive matches in the WAFLW competition backing up their win last week against Subiaco.
Casey Byrne had a day out up forward for South Fremantle kicking three goals from seven kicks, two marks and two tackles.
Hunter Cronin and Rosie Anderson kicked two goals apiece as well for the Bulldogs with Ella Ward and Kahra Sprylan kicking a goal apiece.
Zoe Wakfer delivered 21 possessions and five marks as well for South Fremantle while Liusaidh Gilchrist finished with 18 disposals and seven hit outs, Shannon Whale 18 touches, Anderson 18 possessions and seven inside 50s, and Lauren Vecchio 18 disposals, eight tackles and six inside-50 entries.
Molly O'Hehir also gathered another 18 possessions, Ward 15 to go with eight hit outs, and Sprylan 15.
Jeevna Heer, Chanel Scott and Jorja Colotti were the goalkickers for West Perth.
Keely Byrne was tremendous all afternoon for the Falcons finishing the game with 24 possessions and three tackles.
Heer also gathered 20 disposals, Grace Betti 20, Kaitlyn Roper 20, Jessica Roper 17 and Jekylah Garlett 17.
