WAFL & WAFLW
The WAFC wishes to advise that following consultation with all WAFL & WAFLW clubs the following decisions have been made in relation to fixtures for this weekend.
All WAFL and WAFLW fixtures scheduled for this weekend (July 3 & 4) will be postponed, with the WAFC to be guided by any further directions and health advice from the WA State Government before re-scheduling matches.
After consultation with WAFL & WAFLW clubs, the health and safety of all players and the uncertainty around WA State Government restrictions meant the WAFC has made the decision to postpone games.
The West Coast Eagles and Fremantle Dockers have flown to Melbourne today, meaning no AFL-listed players from either club are able to participate in State Leagues for the coming weekend.
A decision on the re-scheduling of the 2021 Optus WAFLW Grand Final will be made in due course.
WAFC Executive Manager WAFL & Talent Scott Baker said the health and safety of everyone remains paramount and the WAFC would continue to take the advice of the WA State Government and health officials.
“The health and safety of our football participants and the wider community remains the priority and we will continue to make decisions in the best interests of everyone,” Baker said.
“While it is disappointing to have to postpone the Optus WAFLW Grand Final, collectively we believe this is the correct outcome for players, staff and supporters.”
“The WAFC thanks all clubs and supporters for their continued understanding as we navigate our way through the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Junior Football
The WAFC wishes to advise that following consultation with key junior football stakeholders the following decision has been made in relation to All Metro Junior Competitions for this coming weekend.
Metro North and Metro Central competitions currently have bye rounds scheduled over the next fortnight, meaning that these competitions are unaffected at this stage.
Metro South competitions (Fremantle & Peel) will bring their bye forward and therefore no matches will be played over the coming weekend (July 2, 3 & 4). Matches scheduled for this weekend will now be re-scheduled, and further details will be communicated to Metro South clubs over the coming days.
There will also be no Auskick sessions scheduled for the coming weekend.
The WAFC has made the decision to enable clarity and certainty for clubs, Auskick centres, volunteers and parents ahead of the weekend and we will continue to be guided by any further directions and health advice from the WA State Government.
Senior Community & Regional Football
The WA Country Football League, in conjunction with Nutrien Ag Solutions, has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 Nutrien Ag Country Football Championships due to the current lockdown measures in place within the Perth & Peel regions.
The cancellation includes the Women’s Country Football Championships (3-4 July), the CBH Group Colts Championships (8-10 July) and the Nutrien Ag Country Football Championships (9-11 July).
The WACFL has made the decision based on the uncertainty around restrictions lifting and believe it is in the best interests of the competing teams and our communities to make this decision as early as possible.
All leagues outside of the Perth & Peel regions are permitted to proceed as normal, however individual leagues may make decisions based on the availability of players. Clubs are encouraged to speak to their leagues directly.
All Perth Football League matches scheduled for this weekend are planned to proceed as normal, however the PFL will be guided by any further directions and health advice from the WA State Government.
