The Optus WAFL Grand Final will return to Optus Stadium in 2021.
The world-class venue will provide the perfect stage for the Simply Energy Colts, WAFL Reserves and Optus WAFL League Grand Finalists to showcase their talent.
All three grades will be played at Australia’s best football stadium, ensuring players, support staff and fans will experience the venue’s state-of-the-art facilities.
The Optus WAFL decider will be played at Optus Stadium on the weekend of September 18/19 after making a shift to Fremantle Community Bank Oval in 2020.
The West Australian Football Commission will work closely with Optus Stadium to create a festival of football atmosphere that will make for the best possible event both inside and outside the ground, bringing in family friendly activations, live sites and kids’ entertainment.
Entry to the event will be FREE for all kids under the age of 16.
After a competitive bidding process between Optus Stadium, Fremantle Community Bank Oval and Provident Financial Oval, the assessment of financial modelling as well as player and fan experience were used to determine the preferred venue.
WAFC CEO Michael Roberts believes Optus Stadium will provide an amazing experience for all involved in the Optus WAFL Grand Final.
“Having this iconic WA sporting event played inside one of the world’s best stadiums will ensure a fantastic and memorable experience for WAFL players and fans,” Mr Roberts said.
“Not only will spectators have the opportunity to see three exciting games of football, they will also experience a family-friendly environment that will make for a great day out with the whole family, with kids able to attend free of charge.”
“The WAFL Grand Final is one of the biggest events on the WA Football calendar and we expect to deliver an outstanding match-day for all football clubs, volunteers and stakeholders across the state."
“We want to create a celebration of WA Football and showcase some of the best players in the state on the biggest stage.”
“We look forward to working together to announce all the details of the event as they are finalised.”
Optus Stadium CEO Mike McKenna said the decision to bring the game back to the Stadium reflects the significance of the WAFL Grand Final to footy fans.
“The last year has shown us that Western Australians are keen to get out and take in live sport whenever they can,” Mr McKenna said.
“Where better to do it than at Optus Stadium, watching the Optus WAFL Grand Final.”
“The strength of these partnerships is great news for WA football fans and means we are excited to be able to put on a very special event that all Western Australians can enjoy.”
