The Simply Energy AFLW WA U19s have started their AFLW National Championships in perfect style with a 32-point victory over Allies at Avalon Airport Oval in Melbourne.
Led by an exciting quartet of small forwards, Western Australia were able to make the most of countless attacking forays to kick away in the second half and overrun the Allies side.
Ashleigh Reidy, Nyra Anderson and Aisha Wright caused havoc in the forward 50 for the yellow and black, putting pressure on the defenders before finishing off their work in front of goal.
Swan District’s Sarah Lakay was the beneficiary with multiple goals, while Wright grabbed two of her own on a dangerous left foot.
Courtney Rowley and Jaide Britton were dominant in the midfield to get first hands on the ball, with Emily Bennett mopping everything up across the half-back line.
Western Australia flew out of the blocks early in the contest, kicking a goal within the first 30 seconds via Wright, before a special individual effort from talented youngster Ella Roberts extended the lead.
Roberts took four bounces through the middle of the field before calmly slotting a goal from 40-metres out.
Despite holding Allies scoreless in the opening quarter, the game turned into a tight contest with only 15-points separating the sides at the main break.
Mylee Leitch was the recipient of a late hit on Chloe Reilly to push the lead out further in the third, as Wright showed off her class with a snap deep in the pocket.
Lakay added a second goal early in the fourth, before a brilliant run from Nyra Anderson rounded off a special day for the women in yellow.
Western Australia will now face Vic Metro on Thursday at Trevor Barker Oval.
