CLAREMONT and West Perth begin a big day at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Sunday in the colts preliminary final with the winner to advance to the Grand Final against Peel Thunder.
Peel has been the dominant team all season in the colts finishing three games clear on top of the ladder with a 14-2 record.
That saw the Thunder earn the first week of the finals off before taking on Claremont in last Sunday's second semi-final which saw them win by 34 points despite having to give up home ground advantage and playing the game at Revo Fitness Stadium.
That win sees Peel advance straight into next Sunday's WAFL Grand Final at Optus Stadium and now sets up this Sunday's preliminary final between Claremont and West Perth at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.
The two teams last met only two weeks ago in the qualifying final at Joondalup's HBF Arena and they played out a thriller with Claremont managing to just hold on and win 7.4 (46) to 5.11 (41).
On that occasion, Ben Elliott kicked two goals for Claremont and Callum Jamieson collected 28 possessions, Jack Cooley 26, Anthony Davis 23, Ronin O'Connor 20 and Joel Western 20.
While for West Perth, Callum Johnson finished with 28 possessions and 12 tackles while Tyron Hindmarsh gathered 26 disposals, Koopah Todd 22, Heath Chapman 21, Tom Menaglio 19 and Rohan Scurria while ruckman Zak Patterson had 12 touches and 40 hit outs.
That win for Claremont saw the Tigers advance to last week's second semi-final against Peel Thunder. Despite playing the game on home turf, Claremont couldn’t quite knock off Peel with the Thunder ending up winning 8.15 (63) to 4.5 (29).
Despite the loss, Joel Western amassed 24 possessions for the Tigers, Jack Cooley 22, Anthony Davis 21, Louis Passera 19 and Callum Jamieson 18 to go with six marks and 26 hit outs.
But Claremont still had a second chance so moved into the preliminary final while Peel advanced straight to the Grand Final for 2019.
Claremont would play the winner of the first semi-final at Leederville Oval between West Perth and East Perth with the Falcons ending up beating the Royals 11.8 (74) to 6.5 (41).
It was an impressive 33-point win by West Perth to keep their season alive with Koopah Todd and Ewan Brazier kicking three goals each while Callum Johnson racked up 30 possessions, Heath Chapman 26, Tyron Hindmarsh 25, Cooper Blackburn 22, Ben Johnson 21 and Logan Foley 19.
Zak Patterson was tremendous in the ruck again with another 17 disposals and 27 hit outs.
That set up West Perth to advance to this Sunday's preliminary final to take on Claremont at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with the winner to book in a place in the 2019 Grand Final at Optus Stadium against Peel Thunder.
