ROUND 10 of the WAFLW season sees the two matches for the weekend split over Saturday and Sunday afternoons with Claremont and East Fremantle battling over second spot, and Peel Thunder attempting to upset Subiaco.

With the ladder so tight in the inaugural 2019 Optus WAFL Women's Premiership Season, every game is taking on extra significance with just one game separating the top four teams while it will only take a winning streak for the Thunder to close the gap as well to put themselves in the mix.

The competitiveness so far in the opening nine rounds of the WAFLW season has backed in the decision to limit the inaugural campaign to the five teams to condense the talent, and it's creating for some high-quality football and plenty of unpredictable contests every weekend.

Now Round 10 takes place this weekend starting on Saturday afternoon at Claremont Oval with the fourth placed Claremont playing host to the second placed East Fremantle.

The second game of the weekend takes place on Sunday afternoon and will be available to watched via livestream with Peel Thunder hosting Subiaco at Mandurah's David Grays Arena.

The third placed Swan Districts has the Round 10 bye with the black-and-whites currently sitting in third position with a 4-4 record on the back of handing Subiaco its second loss of the season last Saturday afternoon.

Round 10 in the WAFLW competition begins at 2pm on Saturday afternoon with Claremont taking on East Fremantle.

The Tigers come into the game with a 4-3 record on the season to sit in fourth position while the Sharks are second also at 4-3 but with a significantly higher percentage.

With both teams entering the contest on the same records, the winner will finish the weekend in second position on the ladder and in East Fremantle's case, with a big win and should Subiaco lose to Peel, they could even move up to top spot.

The two teams have already met once this season back in Round 5 also at Claremont Oval and on that occasion it was a thrilling contest with the Tigers getting over the Sharks by a solitary point.

On that occasion, Emily Bonser, Chloe Metcalf, Leigha Erceg and Brooke Whyte kicked goals for Claremont while Roxanne Roux, Kahra Sprylan, Larissa Versaci and Ashleigh Gomes were the goal kickers for East Fremantle.

Claremont had the bye last weekend and prior to that held Peel to a point and won by 29 points.

East Fremantle had a big win by 39 points over Peel last weekend as well to have now won their past two matches since a Round 7 loss to Subiaco.

The second match of the weekend takes place on Sunday afternoon also from 2pm with Peel Thunder playing Subiaco in Mandurah.

Peel comes into the game having won just one of seven matches so far in 2019 to be in last position on the ladder with the 1-6 record.

Subiaco, meanwhile, is on top of the WAFLW competition with a 5-2 record and the best percentage out of the five teams.

Subiaco can maintain its edge in top spot with another win on Sunday while Peel can keep its season alive with the upset victory.

The Lions are coming off suffering their second loss of the season last Saturday at the hands of Swan Districts while Peel kicked just the one goal in a 39-point loss to East Fremantle.

The two teams have already met once this 2019 WAFLW season with Subiaco winning big by 51 points back in Round 5 also at David Grays Arena.
