Round 7 Optus WAFLW PreviewSaturday, June 22, 2019 - 1:05 AM - by Chris Pike

THERE are another two tantalising match ups in the WAFLW competition this weekend with East Fremantle taking on Subiaco on Saturday, and Claremont hosting Swan Districts on Sunday.

It remains a tremendously tight and competition inaugural Optus WAFLW Premiership Season with all five teams capable of beating anybody on their day, and still taking part in finals action entering Round 7.

There are two more matches that are hard to predict a winner in taking place this weekend with East Fremantle hosting Subiaco at East Fremantle's New Choice Homes Park on Saturday from 2.40pm.

Then on Sunday at Claremont Oval from 2pm, it will be Claremont playing Swan Districts with that the match that will be live streamed on the WAFL website and Facebook page.

Peel Thunder is coming off the bye following recording its first win of the season last week against Swan Districts.

Round 7 in the WAFLW competition begins on Saturday afternoon at East Fremantle's New Choice Homes Park and it should be a tremendous contest between East Fremantle and Subiaco.

The two teams met in the Grand Final at league level last year with the Sharks prevailing and now both teams have made solid starts to the inaugural WAFLW season.

East Fremantle comes into the game following a bye last weekend and having a 2-2 record from their four matches, but their two wins have been emphatic against Swan Districts by 61 points and Peel Thunder by 37 points.

The two losses for the Sharks have been narrow ones against Subiaco by 11 points back in Round 2 at Leederville Oval and one-point against Claremont at Claremont Oval.

Meanwhile, Subiaco comes into Round 7 on top of the WAFLW ladder with a 4-1 record coming off a terrific 50-point win over Claremont last week at Leederville Oval.

Subiaco's lone loss for the season came at the hands of Claremont back in Round 4 while the Lions have defeated Swans by 29 points, the Sharks by 11, Thunder by 51 and Tigers by 50.

Given their history against one another and with having already played out a close encounter earlier this season, all signs point to another cracking contest on Saturday at Shark Park.

Claremont and Swan Districts will then do battle in what should be another fascinating battle on Sunday afternoon at Claremont Oval.

Having already played four of the first give games of the season on home turf at Steel Blue Oval so far in the WAFLW, Swan Districts now has to play away from Bassendean this Sunday afternoon up against Claremont at Claremont Oval.

The game will begin on Sunday at 2pm and will be available to be watched via the live stream on the WAFL website and Facebook page for those unable to be in attendance to cheer on the black-and-whites.

Meanwhile, Swan Districts' reserves and Youth Girls female football teams will be in action also on Sunday but at Steel Blue Oval.

The Rogers Cup contest will get things underway on Sunday at Steel Blue Oval with the Swan Districts Youth Girls team taking on West Perth from 10.30am.

The reserves clash will also be a battle between Swan Districts and West Perth starting at 12pm at Steel Blue Oval.

Then later in the afternoon at Claremont Oval, the Swan Districts league team will be in WAFLW action against Claremont from 2pm.

The two teams have already met once this WAFLW season and that was back in Round 2 at Steel Blue Oval with Swan Districts running out 36-point winners over Claremont.

On that occasion, Swans dominated with five goals to nil in the second half to secure the win while Mikayla Hyde and Emily McGuire kicked two goals each, and Aimee Ralph, Emma O'Driscoll, Taylor Pescud and Lauren Osborne were particularly impressive.

Claremont was playing its first game of the season after the Round 1 bye and struggled despite some encouraging showings from Bella Zadnik and Sophie McDonald.

Since that Round 2 contest, Swan Districts suffered a 61-point loss to East Fremantle, beat Peel Thunder by 46 points and then last Saturday went down to Peel by 52 points at Steel Blue Oval.

Meanwhile, Claremont bounced back to beat the Thunder by three points in Round 3 before also beating Subiaco by seven points, East Fremantle by a solitary point and then going down to the Lions by 50 points last week at Leederville Oval.

That means that coming into Sunday's clash at Claremont Oval, Claremont sits in second position on the WAFLW ladder with a 3-2 record while Swan Districts is fourth at 2-3.

That raises the stake for the contest with a win for the black-and-whites drawing them level with the Tigers at 3-3 and significantly tightening up the competition. But a win for Claremont and the Tigers will help to open up a handy gap between the top two teams and the other three at the end of Round 7.
