The West Australian Football Commission congratulates the four players selected in the 2019 AFL Mid-Season Draft, including number one selection Josh Deluca from Subiaco Football Club, and each of the WAFL clubs that have played a key role in their development.
Deluca, who was selected by Carlton, was followed by Jack Mayo (Subiaco) at number 8 to St. Kilda, Dillon O’Reilly (East Fremantle) at number 11 to Fremantle and Marlion Pickett (South Fremantle) at number 13 to Richmond.
WAFC CEO Gavin Taylor said each of these players was highly deserving of the opportunity to be added to an AFL club list and congratulated them on their selection.
“This is great recognition for the hard work and commitment of each of these players and the terrific support they have received from their clubs, coaches and family members throughout their career to date,” he said.
“To have these players drafted highlights and reinforces the important role the WAFL competition and its clubs continue to play in developing many of the game’s greatest players.”
“I thank the WAFL clubs for their contribution to player development and wish each of these players every success as they strive to achieve their AFL dream,” he said.
19 WA players have now been added to AFL lists for the 2019 season, with the four mid-season draftees adding to the seven players selected in the AFL National Draft, five in the Rookie Draft and three in the Pre-Season Supplemental Draft.
“With the first year of the new draft format now complete, we will look to engage with the AFL to provide our feedback on opportunities for improvement to the process, support to the clubs most impacted, and the ongoing support for the development of our most talented players through the WAFL competition,” Mr Taylor said.
