Round 4 Optus WAFLW PreviewFriday, May 24, 2019 - 1:20 PM - by Chris Pike

BOTH matches in Round 4 of the Optus WAFL Women's Premiership Season takes place on Saturday this weekend and with East Fremantle having the bye, it's a chance for the other four teams to make a statement.

East Fremantle has the bye in Round 4 of the WAFLW competition on the back of winning two of their first three matches of the season following their premiership triumph at league level in last year's WA Women's Football League.

The two WAFLW Round 4 matches will then take place on Saturday this weekend with both matches played as curtain-raisers to the WAFL action later that day.

The opening Round 4 WAFLW contest takes place at Claremont Oval with Claremont taking on Subiaco with a bouncedown time of 9.25am. It will be played at the same venue that the Tigers and Lions will also play in WAFL action later in the day.

The second game of the round takes place at Bassendean's Steel Blue Oval between two teams desperate for a win with Swan Districts taking on Peel Thunder.

The game begins at 12.15pm and will serve as the curtain-raiser to the WAFL contest later in the afternoon between Swan Districts and the West Coast Eagles.

Round 4 in the WAFLW competition begins on Saturday morning with Claremont taking on Subiaco at Claremont Oval.

With Claremont coming off its first win of the season and Subiaco winning its first two games before a bye last week, it should be a tremendous contest at Tigerland.

Claremont started its season with the bye in Round 1 and then with a 36-point loss to Swan Districts in Round 2 at Steel Blue Oval. But the Tigers got on the board last Sunday with a thrilling three-point victory against Peel Thunder at Claremont Oval.

Subiaco, meanwhile, was coming off a Grand Final appearance at league level last year and started the 2019 WAFLW season impressively with wins over Swan Districts and East Fremantle in the opening two rounds.

The Lions then had the bye last weekend but return to action this Saturday looking to keep their perfect record intact.

Swan Districts and Peel both come into Saturday's clash at Steel Blue Oval following defeats with Swans looking for their first win of the season and the Thunder still searching for their first.

Swans opened the inaugural season in WAFLW with a loss at home to Subiaco by 29 points before responding the following Sunday also on home soil at Bassendean with an impressive 36-point victory.

But last Sunday, Swans managed just the one goal and two scoring shots the entire afternoon to lose to East Fremantle by 61 points at East Fremantle's New Choice Homes Park.

That saw the Black Ducks slip to a 1-2 record on the season entering Saturday's clash with Peel.

The Thunder started the season with a 37-point loss on the road to East Fremantle in Round 1 before having the bye in Round 2 and then returning to action last Sunday and putting in a competitive showing, but ultimately losing to Claremont by three points at Claremont Oval.

So with both teams desperate for a win and a good crowd expected in the lead up to the WAFL contest between Swan Districts and the West Coast Eagles, Swans and the Thunder will be throwing everything at one another come Saturday afternoon.
