More than 200 students from Australian Islamic Colleges (AIC) and Intensive English Centres (IEC) across Perth recently came together to learn the fundamentals of footy alongside West Coast Eagles stars at this year’s Bachar Houli Cup event.

Participating schools included Dianella AIC, Thornlie AIC, Kewdale AIC, Beaconsfield IEC and Highgate IEC.

The students buddied with West Coast Eagles stars including the likes of Nic Naitanui, Shannon Hurn, Jeremy McGovern, and Luke Shuey, in a number of skill clinics at Carine Open Space, before they got the chance to have a chat to the players and grab their signatures.

The students then showcased their skills in a series of nine-a-side matches.

WA Football Commission Participation Manager Josh Bowler said the event provided an excellent opportunity to engage with the Islamic community and other various multicultural communities via our great game.

“The event proved to be a great success and we hope all participants had fun on the day and are keen to learn more about how they can get involved in the football pathway,” he said.

“It was also a fantastic opportunity for all our staff and volunteers involved who got to learn more about the Islamic faith and engage with the participants.”
