Round 13 Match PreviewsFriday, June 29, 2018 - 11:13 AM - by Chris Pike

THE WAFL is back to a full round of fixtures this Saturday and there's plenty on the line with West Perth trying to topple Subiaco in the annual International Football Festival at Joondalup Arena undoubtedly the headline act.

There were just the three games in Round 12 of the WAFL last Saturday and that saw the season significantly tighten up in terms of the battle for the last two spots in the final five, with Claremont winning to close in further and Swan Districts and East Perth losing to be in danger of dropping out.

While Subiaco and West Perth won their games last Saturday to further consolidate their top three positions either side of the second placed South Fremantle, it's a tight competition beneath the Lions, Bulldogs and Falcons who appear to have their spots sewn up at this stage.

That leads into a fascinating Round 13 of the 2018 WAFL season and it begins at Bendigo Bank Stadium with Peel Thunder hosting Swan Districts.

Peel captain Gerald Ugle will be playing his 100th WAFL game and attempting to try to help the Thunder back into the top five while Swans are trying to stop a losing slide to consolidate fourth position.

South Fremantle is back in action after the bye as well by hosting East Perth at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

The teams last met in Round 7 with both teams on four-game winning streaks at that stage. The Bulldogs won that match and have improved to a 7-3 record to stay in second spot since while for the Royals that began their current five-game losing streak.

Then at 2.40pm at Joondalup Arena, West Perth will be hosting Subiaco as part of the annual International Football Festival.

The Falcons come into the game in third position at 7-4 having won their past two matches and they are also the only team yet to feel the full brunt of Subiaco, only losing its previous meeting this season by 22 points.

Subiaco does come into the contest in top spot with a perfect 10-0 record having thrashed Swan Districts by 82 points at Steel Blue Oval last Saturday though.

The round then concludes later on Saturday afternoon with East Fremantle playing Claremont at Country Builders Stadium in Geraldton.

East Fremantle had the bye last weekend after a disappointing 64-point loss to Perth and Saturday's game will be the first the Sharks play since coach Rob Wiley announcing he would be stepping down at season's end.

Claremont beat East Perth by 32 points last Saturday to now just be percentage out of the top five heading into Saturday's contest in Geraldton.
