PEEL Thunder replaced Swan Districts on top of the WAFL Colts ladder without playing a game in Round 12 with Subiaco beating Swan Districts while West Perth stayed in touch with a top five position and East Perth got close to climbing out of the cellar.
It's a remarkably tight WAFL colts competition so far in 2018 with only four games separating the top and bottom placed teams with Peel Thunder holding a 7-3 record and East Perth 3-7.
That means that all nine teams still remain a chance to take part in finals action in 2018 and it makes every game that takes place fascinating not only for the result, but the exciting young talent on display.
There were just the three matches on Saturday in Round 12 of the WAFL colts season starting at Steel Blue Oval with Subiaco closing in on a top two position beating the previously top-of-the-table Swan Districts 9.8 (62) to 5.11 (41).
West Perth moved to being just one game outside the top five by beating Perth 18.5 (113) to 5.11 (41) at Joondalup Arena.
The round then concluded at Leederville Oval with East Perth getting its third win of the season, beating Claremont 8.8 (56) to 5.10 (40).
Despite having the bye in Round 12, Peel Thunder (7-3) improved to top spot on the colts ladder with Swan Districts (7-3) slipping to second and Subiaco (7-3) in third.
East Fremantle remains fourth (6-5) despite also having the bye with Perth (5-6) still clinging to the last position in the top five.
West Perth (4-7) is just outside a finals position ahead of South Fremantle (4-6), Claremont (4-7) and East Perth (3-7).
