DESPITE Round 11 WAFL Colts victories for Peel Thunder, Subiaco and East Fremantle couldn’t topple Swan Districts from top spot while Claremont won a nail-biter over West Perth.

The Round 11 WAFL Colts action saw Claremont claim a thriller beating West Perth 7.9 (51) to 7.7 (49) at Claremont Oval.

The other three games weren’t quite as tight with Subiaco beating East Perth 11.21 (87) to 6.4 (40) at Leederville Oval, Peel Thunder defeating South Fremantle 11.10 (76) to 6.6 (42) at Fremantle Community Bank Oval and East Fremantle downing Perth 14.9 (93) to 10.5 (65) at Lathlain Park.

The Round 11 results in the colts left Swan Districts (7-2) retaining top spot on the ladder despite having the bye and still having a game in hand on the second placed Peel Thunder (7-3).

Subiaco (6-3) sits in third ahead of East Fremantle (6-5) with Perth (5-5) rounding out the top five.

South Fremantle (4-6) sits outs the top five in front of Claremont (4-6), West Perth (3-7) and East Perth (2-7).
 

 

EAST PERTH v SUBIACO

Subiaco's colts consolidated their third position on the ladder and maintained pressure on the top two teams with a solid win over East Perth at Leederville Oval on Saturday.

Subiaco now remains a game behind both Swan Districts and Peel Thunder, and percentage ahead of East Fremantle while having played a game less than Peel and two fewer than the Sharks.

The Lions started the clash with their Leederville Oval co-tenants on fire on Saturday morning with the only five goals of the first quarter. It was then another two unanswered goals in the second quarter and the Lions were up by 45 points at the long break.

East Perth did kick five goals to two in the second quarter before the Lions dominated the last term with 14 scoring shots to one. But they only ended up kicking 2.12 from those before ending up winning comfortably 11.21 (87) to 6.4 (40).

Nicholas Martin kicked three goals for Subiaco and Ben Golding two.

Tristan Hobley racked up 32 possessions for the Lions and Luke Foley 27 to go with 10 inside-50 entries, nine tackles and three marks.

Wil Hickmott also gathered 24 possessions, Zane Shellabear Healey 23, Jacob Peletier 23, Jake McKinnon 18 and Liam Hickmott 18.

Rhai-Arn Cox kicked two goals for East Perth while Louis Miller amassed 28 possessions for the Royals, Damon Greaves 27, Eric Bashemule 18, Rory Sparks 18 and Jarrod Hamer-Mathew 15.

 

SOUTH FREMANTLE v PEEL THUNDER

South Fremantle's colts led for three quarters against the second placed Peel Thunder at Fremantle Community Bank Oval but couldn’t quite maintain it in the last term.

South Fremantle was trying to stay in the hunt for a top five position coming into the contest and started strongly leading by six points at quarter-time, by three points at half-time and still by two points at three quarter-time.

But it was all Peel in the final term with the Thunder managing to kick six goals to just one behind from South Fremantle to come away with the 11.10 (76) to 6.6 (42) victory.

Lachlan Cullen and Ben Middleton both kicked three goals apiece for Peel with both also having seven kicks and six marks by doing so.

Jackson Perry gathered 23 possessions for the Thunder while Brad Oldfield collected 21 disposals while laying nine tackles.

James Sturrock picked up 19 touches too for Peel, Michael Randall 19, Jarvis Pina 17 and Jarrod Fazioli.

Billy Chambers also had 11 touches and 43 hit outs in the ruck.

Tom Weston kicked two goals from five kicks for South Fremantle with Lachlan Feeney, Robert Woods, Jack Fenton and Manfred Kelly all kicking a goal apiece.

Tom Blechynden compiled 23 possessions for South Fremantle, Matthew Ward 20 (10 tackles), Toby McQuilkin 16, Enrique Aiken-Featherstone 16 and Neil Irani 16.

 

CLAREMONT v WEST PERTH

The day got underway on Saturday at Claremont Oval with a colts thriller between Claremont and West Perth to set the stage for what was to follow later on in the league fixture.

West Perth made an impressive start up against a Claremont team that is a regular fixture as a strong colts group having reached the past five Grand Finals.

The Falcons kicked three goals to one in the first quarter to lead by 11 points at quarter-time. But the Tigers held them goalless in the second term while kicking three goals themselves to lead by seven points at the long break.

It was a goal apiece in the third term with Claremont still holding an eight-point lead at three quarter-time before West Perth finished strongly with three goals to two in the last quarter

But it was the Tigers who did enough to hold on for the 7.9 (51) to 7.7 (49) victory.

Leno Thomas and Isaac Burton both kicked two goals apiece for Claremont.

Rylie Morgan compiled 26 possessions for the Tigers to go with seven tackles and six inside-50 entries.

Max Grant picked up 26 disposals, Thomas Baldwin 22, Nathan Pearce 21, Jack Monaghan 19, Josh Robbins 17 and Corey Hitchcock 17.

Ben Johnson, Nathan Murray, Eamon Gilbert, Jamie Dowen, Zak Patterson, Tyron Hindmarsh and Callum Johnson all kicked a goal apiece for West Perth.

Murray delivered a big performance for the Falcons colts with 34 possessions, five marks, five inside 50s and four tackles with Jaxon Prior finishing with 32 disposals, seven marks and five inside-50 entries.

Tom Medhat gathered 23 possessions, Jack Burke 17, Brayden Templeton 15 and Hindmarsh 15. Gilbert had 17 touches, 26 hit outs, four marks and four tackles along with his goal.

 

PERTH v EAST FREMANTLE

East Fremantle moved a game clear of Perth on the WAFL Colts ladder thanks to a 28-point victory for the Sharks over the Demons at Lathlain Park on Saturday.

Both teams entered the contest with five wins on the board for the season and in the end it was East Fremantle who consolidated fourth position by coming away with the 14.9 (93) to 10.5 (65) win.

The Sharks started impressively kicking five goals to two in the first quarter to lead by 20 points at the first break.

Perth had closed the gap to 15 points by half-time before the Sharks were still on top by 14 points at three quarter-time.

East Fremantle then finished the job by kicking five goals to three in the last quarter to come away with the 28-point victory.

Edward Curley and Dylan Curley kicked three goals apiece for East Fremantle with Ethan Brown also booting two.

Corey Robinson ended up collecting 18 possessions for the Sharks, Trent Rivers 18, Max Murphy 17, Nicholas Patat 16 and Cody Smith 16.

Ian Hill kicked three goals for Perth and Joshua Healy two.

Luke English delivered a remarkable performance for the Demons made up of 40 possessions, 10 marks, seven inside-50 entries and a goal.

Sydney Stack also racked up 33 disposals for Perth, Maverick Hamilton 27, Ethan Hansen 22, Ben Watson 14, Elijah Taylor 14 and Austin Davis 14.
