South Australia proved too strong for Western Australia in Round 1 of the NAB AFL National 18s Championships with a convincing 89-point win in Adelaide today, Sunday June 3.
South Australia’s strong attack on the football and efficiency in front of goal saw them win the game 19.10-124 to 5.5-35 spearheaded by four goals each from Jack Lukosius and Hugo Munn.
Luke Moore kicked two goals for WA while Jordan Clark, Luke English and Ian Hill all added singles.
English led WA’s disposals with 25 possessions followed by Damon Greaves 23, James Sturrock 18, Regan Spooner 17 and Rylie Morgan and Luke Jackson with 15 each.
The teams traded goals to open the contest however Ian Hill remained WA’s solitary goal-scorer in the first quarter after SA pushed ahead, capitalising on 13 inside 50s to 7 with four unanswered goals.
SA won the inside 50 count 56 to 33 over the course of the game and made the most of their chances in front of goal, while WA struggled to find time and space around the ground.
WA will now regroup for their second game of the National 18s Championships against Victoria Metro at Optus Stadium on June 10.
