PERTH and Swan Districts both won their Round 8 WAFL Colts encounters on Saturday to move clear on top of the ladder with South Fremantle and Peel Thunder also victorious.

The Round 8 WAFL colts action saw Swan Districts come from behind to beat East Perth impressively 11.5 (71) to 6.4 (40) at Leederville Oval.

South Fremantle also finished strongly to defeat Claremont 8.6 (54) to 3.11 (29) at Fremantle Community Bank Oval while Peel Thunder downed East Fremantle 8.11 (59) to 5.9 (39) at East Fremantle Oval and Perth beat Subiaco 6.9 (45) to 5.9 (39) at Lathlain Park.

Following eight rounds of the 2018 colts season, Perth remains on top of the ladder with a 5-2 record.

The Demons are in top spot ahead of Swan Districts (5-2), Subiaco (4-3), Peel Thunder (4-3) and East Fremantle (4-4).

Then just outside the top five is West Perth (3-4) ahead of South Fremantle (3-4), Claremont (3-4) and East Perth (1-6).
 

EAST PERTH v SWAN DISTRICTS

The day started well for Swan Districts at Leederville Oval with the colts claiming a 31-point victory against East Perth.

There was just the one goal kicked in the opening term with the conditions at its worst for the game with that lone major going East Perth's way.

East Perth then kicked away further in the second term with three more unanswered goals to have held Swan Districts goalless and to just four behinds in the first half.

But Swans came out a different unit in the second half starting off kicking three goals to two in the third quarter and then playing some scintillating football in the last term piling on eight goals to no score to East Perth.

That saw Swan Districts secure the 11.5 (71) to 6.4 (40) win and improve to a 5-2 record in second position on the ladder while East Perth sits last at 1-6.

Kade Walldrot kicked four goals for Swan Districts, Nathan Ireland three and Jarred Cameron two to go with 25 possessions, seven marks, six inside-50 entries and five tackles.

Riley Garcia also racked up 25 possessions for Swans along with nine tackles and nine inside 50s.

Mitchell Bain collected 24 disposals, Joel Curtis 24, Jackson Beck 17, Denzel More 17 and Brenton Hilton 17.

Cooper Sparks gathered 21 possessions for East Perth, Jarrod Hamer-Mathew 17, Kyle Tickle 16 and Thomas Baulch 15.

 

SOUTH FREMANTLE v CLAREMONT

South Fremantle's colts began the day impressively beating Claremont by 25 points at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

It was a tight first half with scores tied at quarter-time and then Claremont taking a three-point advantage into half-time before the Bulldogs kicked the only two goals of the third quarter, and four to one in the last to claim the 8.6 (54) to 3.11 (29) victory.

The win improved South Fremantle to a 3-4 record on the season to sit in seventh position on the colts ladder. Meanwhile, Claremont is also 3-4 in eighth spot on the back of having played in the past five colts grand finals.

Tom Weston kicked three goals for South Fremantle and Luke Moore two to go with 21 possessions and six marks.

Toby McQuilkin also collected 21 disposals for the Bulldogs, Enrique Aiken-Featherstone 19, Matthew Ward 19, Tom Blechynden 18 and James Russell 15 to go with eight tackles.

Lewis Hendry, Cameron Stedman and Elijah Murray kicked the goals for Claremont.

Oliver Henderson racked up 15 possessions for the Tigers, Jack Monaghan 14, Isaac Barton 14 and Jacob Dorsett-Sawyer 13 along with six tackles.

 

PERTH v SUBIACO

Perth maintained its position on top of the colts ladder coming from behind to beat Subiaco by six points at Lathlain Park on Saturday.

Subiaco was on top of the contest through the opening three quarters having kicked the only two goals of the first quarter and still going on to lead by 15 points at half-time and 16 at three quarter-time.

But Perth then got going in the final term kicking three goals while holding Subiaco scoreless to come away with the 6.9 (45) to 5.9 (39) victory.

Bailey Smith kicked three goals for Perth from 12 kicks to go with laying five tackles.

Zac Casey collected 18 possessions for the Demons, Ben Watson 15, Austin Davis 15, Sydney Stack 14 and Maverick Hamilton 13. Stack and Hamilton also laid 15 tackles between them for the game.

Abraham Clinch kicked two goals for Subiaco along with five entries inside the forward 50 from 12 disposals.

Liam Hickmott delivered a remarkable performance for the Lions with 38 possessions and 10 tackles.

Tristan Hobley also finished with 28 touches for Subiaco, Zane Shellabear Healey 24, Ben Golding 21, Jacob Peletier 18, Fraser Softley 16 and Jake McKinnon 15 along with 12 tackles.

 

EAST FREMANTLE v PEEL THUNDER

East Fremantle had the chance to maintain pace with the top two teams in the colts on Saturday but in the end it was Peel Thunder who won impressively by 20 points.

Peel started strongly at East Fremantle Oval kicking three goals to one in the first quarter but scores were all square by half-time after the Sharks had hit back.

It was then a goal apiece in the third quarter with Peel going into three quarter-time with a three-point advantage. 

But the Thunder finished strongly with the only three goals of the final term to claim the 8.11 (59) to 5.9 (39) victory.

The win improves Peel to fourth position on the ladder with a 4-3 record to be just ahead of East Fremantle who is in fifth spot at 4-4.

Deon Welham had just four kicks for Peel but made the most of his opportunities kicking three goals as his team's only multiple scorer in the game.

James Sturrock gathered 25 possessions for the Thunder, Lachlan Riley 22, Jake Howes 21, Tyson Powell 19, Jarvis Pina 18, Jack Sears 18 and Tyrone Thorne 16 to go with eight tackles and kicking four behinds.

Tom Wright and Corey Robinson kicked two goals apiece for East Fremantle.

Tom Monaghan finished with 24 possessions and eight marks for the Sharks while Nicholas Patat gathered 22 disposals, Tom Wright 20, Corey Robinson 19, Jake Diggle 18 and Josh Ritchie 16.
