West Australian Football Commission ElectionsSaturday, October 21, 2017 - 9:05 AM

The West Australian Football Commission, the controlling body of football in Western Australia, is seeking expressions of interest from persons wishing to be considered for appointment as a Commissioner.  The role of the Commission is to oversee the promotion, development and management of football throughout the State and provide guidance, planning and leadership to all levels of the game.

Football in WA is currently going through its most significant period of reform since the introduction of the Perth-based AFL teams. In addition to AFL football relocating to Perth Stadium in 2018, a 5- year WAFC Strategic Plan has been developed that sets a new vision for football in WA under the 3 strategic pillars of Engagement, Talent & Sustainability. The role of Commissioner is therefore a unique opportunity for highly committed individuals to play a role in shaping and leading the future of football in WA.

We are seeking candidates with experience in the areas of community football, finance, business, communications and marketing, who can support the continued success of football at all levels. A level of participation and engagement is required with stakeholders as well as the ability to contribute actively at board level with independence and objectivity.  Completion of the Australian Institute of Company Directors’ Governance course is a desirable qualification.

There are three positions to be filled, one of which relates to a Commissioner who will retire by rotation and is eligible to stand again. The appointments will each be effective for 3-year terms from 1.1.18 to 31.12.20.  The position of Commissioner is not remunerated.

The Commission is a not-for-profit sports association established in 1989 and is responsible for the overall development and strategic direction of football in Western Australia.  The Commission owns the West Coast Eagles FC and Fremantle Dockers FC as wholly owned subsidiaries and oversees the operations of the WAFL, junior and senior community football, umpiring and development.

As the Commission strives to be as diverse as the communities we represent we encourage female, indigenous and multicultural applications.

Details of Commissioner duties and obligations are available – please contact gingram@wafc.com.au

PO Box 275, Subiaco WA 6904

or emailed to gingram@wafc.com.au

A submission of an expression of interest conveys consent for the statement, curriculum vitae and photograph, if included, to be circulated to the Nominee Members and Affiliates of the WAFC.

Expressions of interest must be received by close of business on Friday 3 November 2017
