International Rules clash to farewell Domain StadiumTuesday, August 8, 2017 - 2:44 PM

Domain Stadium will host AFL’s biggest names when the International Rules match is played against Ireland on November 18, in what will be the last ever AFL event at the oval.

The AFL announced the two-test series today with the opening clash set to take place a week earlier in Adelaide on November 12.

Fremantle Dockers coach Ross Lyon, who will take on the role of assistant coach to Geelong’s Chris Scott, said it is a fitting farewell for Domain Stadium before football moves to the new Perth Stadium.

 “It will be the last AFL game played at Domain Stadium- so there’s a lot to like about what is coming up and we really encourage everyone to get there,” Lyon said.

Perth hosted the 2014 International Rules clash which saw Australia take home a 56-46 win over Ireland.

 “My experience here was a sell-out and, previous to that, every other game has been a sell-out, which is fantastic, and it really displays the passion of Perth football people,” he said.

The AFL team will be made up of players who have been selected as All-Australians.

“It’s a high ticket to get in - to be All Australian, and we want it to be coveted, we want it to be really valued,” Lyon said.

West Coast midfielder Andrew Gaff, who was involved in the 2015 clash, said he is looking forward to mixing with the country’s best players.

Having missed the last two clashes due to injury Fremantle Dockers captain Nat Fyfe is really excited to represent Australia.

Fyfe said it will be a very special match, given it marks the final AFL event to be held at Domain Stadium.

“The opportunity to finish off here with a high-flowing, fast, exciting game with some of the best players in the country, against what I’m sure will be a highly competitive Ireland team will be worth coming to see," he said.

The match will be broadcast national on the Seven Network and Seven Mate.

Ticket prices start at $25 for Adults and $50 for a family ticket.
