Thirteen WA players are representing the Flying Boomerangs and World under 16 national team as part of the NAB AFL National 16s Championships on the Gold Coast this week.
Selected by AFL Club recruiters following the 2016 AFL National Diversity Championships held in Townsville earlier this year, the respective squads of 30 young men have been chosen based on school attendance, leadership skills, and football ability.
The AFL Flying Boomerangs program is a personal development and leadership program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young men aged 14-16 years old, while the World Team is made up of the best upcoming AFL multicultural players from across the nation.
Those selected will be exposed to the best training, coaching and mentoring, as well as personal development opportunities during the NAB AFL Under-16 Championships, which run from Sunday, July 9 to Saturday, July 15.
The teams will play two games against eachother during the week, the first on Tuesday, July 11 at Metricon Stadium at 12.45pm WA time, and the second on Friday, July 14 at Yeronga at 1.30pm WA time.
