West Australian Football Commission CEO Gavin Taylor said the WAFC has positively engaged with the new Government since they have come to office, which has included discussions about the WAFC’s lease on the Subiaco Oval precinct.
 
“We’re continuing to work hard to reach a solution with the State which delivers certainty of funding for the 300,000 participants who take part in grassroots football across all of Western Australia.

 “Part of that solution includes making decisions around the lease of the Subiaco Oval precinct and the WAFC’s accommodation requirements for approximately 80 internal staff, plus access to a community-based oval for football development programs, state academies and grassroots football activities.
 
“We are eager to work with the State and the City of Subiaco on master planning for the precinct, including the development of a new high school and a home for the WAFC, amongst other community facilities and mixed used developments. 
 
“We see the proposal announced this morning as an exciting opportunity where WA football’s headquarters and a high school could partner and share complementary dual-purpose facilities, potentially making it an attractive long-term housing option for the WAFC, while also retaining a valuable community football asset within the City of Subiaco.

“Having seen the benefits of the community facility recently developed in a partnership between the Fremantle Football Club and the City of Cockburn, I believe similar outcomes can be achieved by the WAFC in partnership with the City of Subiaco and the State Government.
 
“I also acknowledge that a significant amount of work has been done with the West Australian Cricket Association (WACA) on a proposed co-location at the WACA Ground, which also presents an attractive option for a future home for the WAFC.

"We will continue to engage positively with the State Government on determining the best outcome for the future of football in WA and look forward to getting a more detailed understanding of what the proposed home of the WAFC at Subiaco Oval would include.”
