WET and chilly weather greeted the WAFL for the first time this season and produced some terrific contests with East Perth storming home to beat South Fremantle, Subiaco surviving East Fremantle and West Perth and Peel Thunder scoring big wins.
It was the final round of the WAFL before next Saturday's state game as well that will see Western Australia take on the VFL at Melbourne's North Port Oval.
There was plenty at stake both in terms of players trying to book their spot in that team to represent the WAFL while ensuring their team headed into the general bye with some winning momentum.
The action got underway at Leederville Oval and despite Subiaco entering on top of the ladder on a seven-game winning run and East Fremantle last and winless, it was a terrific battle.
Despite trailing by 22 points at half-time, East Fremantle hit back with six goals to three in the third term and did hit the front during the second half.
However, Subiaco managed to see them off and win 15.18 (108) to 11.11 (77) for an eighth straight win to improve to an 8-1 record and move further clear on top of the ladder.
The real thriller of the day took place at Fremantle Community Bank Oval for the second time in seven days.
South Fremantle looked on track to consolidate second spot and bounce back from last week's loss to Subiaco when leading by 22 points early in the last term after Cory Dell'Olio's third goal.
But East Perth wouldn’t be denied and kicked the last four goals of the game and then rushed through the winning behind from a Drew Petrie shot to snatch the hearth-stopping 10.11 (71) to 10.10 (70) win.
East Perth has now won four straight to improve to 4-5 while South Fremantle has lost two straight to be 6-3.
West Perth made it five consecutive wins to improve to third position on the ladder with a comfortable 13.14 (92) to 7.18 (60) win over Claremont at HBF Arena.
The Falcons wore specially designed commemorative jumpers in celebration of the 120th anniversary of their 1897 premiership and Andrew Strijk celebrated by kicking five goals.
Peel Thunder made it three straight wins with the reigning premiers recording its biggest ever victory defeating Perth 18.15 (123) to 5.3 (33) at Lathlain Park.
