WAFC appoints full-time Female Talent ManagerFriday, February 10, 2017 - 11:28 AM

The West Australian Football Commission is pleased to announce that Clint Degebrodt has been appointed as the WAFC’s first ever full-time Talent Manager – Female Programs to support the development and advancement of WA players and coaches aspiring to the AFL Women’s competition.

Degebrodt, who will move into the role from his current position as Talent Manager at East Perth Football Club, has extensive female football and talent development experience including coaching WA’s State 18 Youth Girls for the past two years.

He has also worked as a High Performance Manager with Swan Districts Football Club, coached the Pilbara Talent Academy and was Head Coach of the North West WA AFL 16s Program.

Degebrodt said he was excited to commence in the new role at such a significant time for female football.

“This is a huge opportunity to be involved in something really exciting. This is a massive growth area for footy and a new opportunity for a whole generation of footballers to play the game they love at the highest level,” he said.

“I am looking forward to helping players achieve their potential, making sure WA girls stay at the top of the tree, and continuing to strengthen and develop players in the WA Women’s Football League and Youth Girls competitions. I can’t wait to get started.”

WAFC Executive Manager Football Operations Jon Haines welcomed Degebrodt to the role and said his experience managing and leading athletes combined with an understanding of the WA female football talent pathway made him an ideal candidate for the position.

“Clint has the experience, passion and enthusiasm to lead our female talent development programs into an exciting new era,” Haines said.

“With the AFL Women’s competition now under way and the explosion in interest, there has never been a better time for an individual with his skill set, personality and intent to play such a significant role in the development of female talent in this State”.

“Whilst we acknowledge the success that WA has had in recent times in relation to players drafted into the AFL Womens competition, we are also acutely aware of the need to invest the appropriate resources into fast tracking the next generation of female footballers. This appointment is reflective of that intent and we look forward to Clint working with all our stakeholders to further enhance WA’s standing on the national stage”.

The role will oversee and manage the Mundella WA State Female Academy and support various stakeholders involved in the development of talented female players.

This will include working closely with the WA Women’s Football League to drive female talent initiatives, planning talent identification processes, identifying talented female athletes from other sports, developing academy programs and appointing academy coaching staff.
