THE West Australian Football Commission (WAFC) congratulates the 10 WAFL players selected in the 2016 NAB AFL National Draft in Sydney tonight, including two top 10 selections and four in the first round.

First round selections included pick #6 Sam Petrevski-Seton (Claremont), #8 Griffin Logue (Swan Districts), #18 Sam Powell-Pepper (East Perth) and #19 Tim English (South Fremantle). 

WAFC CEO Gavin Taylor congratulated all the players selected and paid tribute to everyone involved in their development.

“This is a fantastic achievement not only for the players selected tonight, but for everyone who has been part of their football journey. Clubs, coaches, teammates, volunteers and family members all play an important role in helping a player reach their potential and they should also be recognised,” he said.

“Everyone at the WAFC is very proud of the individual players who have received the opportunity to fulfil their AFL dream and wish them all the best as they start this exciting chapter of their football career.

“One of the key objectives of the WAFC is to promote, encourage and oversee the growth and development of football in Western Australia, which includes our most talented players.

“We are committed to ensuring that the WAFC focusses on talent pathways, programs and coaches, which in the last 12 months has included the appointments of former AFL Assistant Coaches Peter Sumich and Tony Micale in new roles with the Deppro WA State Academy.

“We want to offer the players and coaches involved with our talent programs the best possible support network and access to elite knowledge and experience to ensure that they receive every opportunity to compete at the highest level.

“Whilst a great result for WA Football, the WAFC wants to ensure we produce high quality talent on a consistent basis every year and will continue to invest and support our talent pathways for both males and females moving forward,” he said.

19 – Tim English (South Fremantle/Brookton-Pingelly) – Western Bulldogs

27 – Zac Fisher (Perth/Guildford Grammar/York Roos) – Carlton

29 – Shai Bolton (South Fremantle/Forrestdale) – Richmond

37 – Josh Rotham (West Perth/Whitfords) – West Coast

48 – Darcy Cameron (Claremont / North Albany / Hale) – Sydney

60 – Quinton Narkle (Perth/Wesley College/Maddington) – Geelong

77 – Jake Waterman (Claremont/Marist) – West Coast

WA product Cedric Cox was selected at pick #24 by the Brisbane Lions via North Ballarat after moving from Halls Creek in WA’s north west at the beginning of the year.

Former Claremont player Matt de Boer received a second opportunity to play AFL with Greater Western Sydney after being delisted by Fremantle at the end of the 2016 season.

Another former Claremont player, Timm House, was selected by Geelong at #68 after relocating from WA and being cleared to Geelong’s VFL side.

Former Esperance junior Brad Scheer was drafted at #67 by Gold Coast as an Academy selection after moving to Queensland as a junior.
