Young people aged six to 16 currently on school holidays are being encouraged to come along to the West Australian Football Commission’s (WAFC) and City of Armadale's Free Multi-Sport Day this Thursday in Gwynne Park, Armadale.
The Multi-Sport Day is a free fun day for kids looking to take part in a number of different sports including football, basketball, netball, cricket, touch rugby and soccer and meet South Fremantle FC superstars Toby McGrath and Marlion Pickett.
A number of fun zones featuring bouncy castles, games, activities and information stalls will be set-up on the day thanks to The City of Armadale, who will also provide a free lunch for all participants.
The event is part of the WAFC’s Nightfields Program which was developed in early 2015 to involve disengaged and/or at-risk youth in football programs supported by a range of social support services.
Nightfields was initially launched in Armadale, Lathalin and Swanview and has since expanded to other metro and regional areas including Cockburn, Fremantle, Melville alongside the South West Metro Partnership Forum (SWMPF) and more recently Mandurah and Kwinana.
Nightfields program participants head to the venue, register their details, practice their sporting skills and play a game of football, netball or cricket. Dinner is also provided at the conclusion of the night session.
As an extension of the Nightfields Program, the Multi-Sport Day will look to create a friendly, welcoming and healthy environment for youth to simply hang out, have fun and play sport.
The continual success of the program has been due to the support by the Department of Sport and Recreation, Department of the Attorney General and Department of Aboriginal Affairs.
