2016 WAFL Talent CarnivalMonday, October 10, 2016 - 3:25 PM

Over the past two weeks over 1500 players from 50 teams participated in the annual WAFL Talent Carnival for Year 8, 9 and 10s.

The carnival is conducted each year between the nine WAFL Clubs and the South West Academy of Sport.

Teams in the Year 8 and Year 9 formats were run with two squads with the Year 10 group having one squad only. Games were played right across the metropolitan area with fixtures also scheduled in the South West.

WAFL Talent Programs Coordinator Clayton Anderson said the main objectives of the carnival were to provide a development opportunity for players, coaches and umpires and an opportunity for the selected players to test themselves against the best emerging young footballers in a competitive match day environment.

“The carnival also allows WAFL Clubs to provide a team and coaching environment in which every individual has the opportunity to develop and display their talent, leadership and determination in a competitive environment and in doing so, prepare players for progression through the WAFL Talent Pathway,” he said.

“The carnival is the introduction stage of the WAFL Talent Pathway and provides a development opportunity for players, coaches and umpires. It also allows our WAFL clubs to provide a team and coaching environment in which every individual has the opportunity to develop and display their talent, leadership and resilience.”
