PLAYER OF THE WEEK – MAX DUFFY
West Perth always knew it was going to get a potential match-winner when signing Max Duffy for the 2016 WAFL season and he showed all of his skill and goal sense on Saturday in a remarkable performance in the Falcons' one-point win over Claremont.

The 22-year-old began his football journey with Perth before crossing to East Fremantle to play colts and then graduate to playing some strong league football for the Sharks in 2012 and 2013 that saw him get rookie-listed by the Fremantle Dockers.

Injury limited him to seven WAFL games in 2014 at Peel but he did breakthrough for two AFL games and showed enough to suggest that his unique skill set in the forward-line could be valuable at the top level.

But he only managed one further game in 2015 before being delisted and that's where West Perth swooped knowing he could provide that bit of individual brilliance to see the Falcons take one step further than the grand final of last year.

Duffy's form has been building throughout the year and having kicked 12 goals in the previous five games, it all came together on Saturday as he booted six goals from 12 kicks in a match-winning performance.

There were remarkable snapped goals, kicks off the ground and the conventional set shots thrown in as Duffy proved exactly why West Perth was so keen to sign him up.

THE SHINING LIGHTS
Subiaco further cemented the minor premiership for a second straight year with a 22-point win over East Perth in a battle of the Medibank Stadium co-tenants on Saturday.

Liam Ryan was the most exciting player on the field with the small forward finishing up kicking four goals and five behinds from 17 possessions and nine marks for Subiaco.

Hamish Shepheard kicked another three goals from five kicks and four marks for the Lions.

Subiaco captain Kyal Horsley was also terrific racking up 34 possessions to go with 12 inside-50 entries and five marks while Leigh Kitchin compiled 25 disposals.

The Lions' back-line also stood tall against some strong East Perth forwards with Greg Broughton continuing his outstanding form with another 26 possessions, nine marks, four tackles and four inside-50 entries.

Jordan Lockyer, Declan Jackson and Aaron Heal all made sure that the Royals' forwards had tough days at the office as well.

It was a forgettable day for East Perth as the Royals slipped outside of the top five but Lewis Jetta delivered an improved performance with 24 possessions, four marks, four tackles and four inside-50 entries to put himself back in the mix to play for West Coast.

Patrick McGinnity also had 23 disposals, eight marks, eight inside 50s and seven tackles while Corey Adamson gathered 21 touches, Will Maginness 20, Tom Cole 19, Mitch Fraser 17, Callum Hart 17 and Brant Colledge 17.

Jonathan Giles kicked two goals for East Perth from 11 possessions, seven marks and 24 hit outs.

If West Perth was to bounce back and lock away third position it was going to take some big performances from a different group of players on Saturday and it was Max Duffy who delivered his best game in Falcons colours.

The former Fremantle and East Fremantle forward pulled out his full bag of tricks on Saturday with a tremendous performance kicking six goals from 12 kicks, with several of his majors coming in a fashion no other player in the league could manage.

Kody Manning also was at his ferocious best for the Falcons and kicked two goals from 20 possessions, five marks and four tackles while Michael Lourey kicked two goals from his only two kicks of the game.

Defender Steven Browne also got forward to kick two important goals for West Perth.

Steve Potente made a strong return for the Falcons with 23 touches and a goal as well while Corey Chalmers gathered 22 disposals and Andrew Strijk 16 to go with eight inside-50 entries and a goal.

Without Shane Nelson to rely on in the midfield the burden went on to the remaining group on the ball for the Falcons and Rohan Kerr was prolific racking up 37 possessions, seven marks, five inside 50s, four tackles and a goal.

Dean Munns didn’t run with Jye Bolton as he had the first two times this year, instead going to Tom Ledger and holding him to just 11 possessions.

Ruckman Chris Keunen worked hard for 19 touches, five tackles, four marks, 26 hit outs and a goal opposed to former West Perth teammate Mitch Andrews who had 12 disposals and 48 hit outs for Claremont.

Aaron Black worked hard for 29 disposals and 10 tackles with Aidan Lynch also racking up 25 touches and nine tackles, captain Jay van Berlo 21 disposals, 10 tackles and a goal, and Trent Manzone 20 possessions and seven tackles.

Nick Rodda made a good return down back for West Perth and kept Darcy Cameron in check while Luke Meadows and Blake Wilhelm had 19 possessions apiece.

Claremont's Jye Bolton would have been expecting the tag of Dean Munns for a third time this season, but when it didn’t come the Simpson Medallist was able to rack up 34 possessions for the Tigers.

He wasn’t the only Claremont midfielder to find plenty of the ball with captain Jake Murphy terrific with 34 disposals, seven tackles and two crucial final quarter goals.

Ryan Lim also amassed 33 touches for the Tigers while Jared Hardisty finished with 28 possessions and Justin Speed 21.

Ruckman Brock Higgins had another strong performance for the Bulldogs ending the afternoon with 20 disposals, six marks and 26 hit outs.

Despite the eventual 35-point defeat, there were some good signs for Swan Districts with midfielder Adam Faulkner again the star with 30 possessions and two goals. Matt Riggio gathered another 29 disposals and veteran Justin Simpson 20 down back to go with five marks.

Matthew Rogers played his 100th WAFL game coming back into the Swans team following a week in the reserves and he kicked two final quarter goals along with 14 possessions.

East Fremantle hadn’t been in great form prior to the bye last week and the Sharks needed to find some to remain in the finals race, and they did that on Saturday beating Perth by 49 points at Lathlain Park to not only bounce back but also return to fifth position.

East Fremantle's forward-line found a way to kick 17 goals with Brett Peake leading the way with four goals from 23 possessions and six marks. James Bristow also booted four majors from 16 touches, eight marks and 12 hit outs.
