SUBIACO and South Fremantle all but guaranteed first and second positions on the WAFL ladder with home wins at different venues in Round 20 of the 2016 McDonald's WAFL Premiership Season while Peel Thunder also went a long way to locking away a second straight finals berth.

Subiaco took on West Perth at Kingsway Reserve on Saturday in the third grand final rematch of 2016 and it was the Lions who proved too strong winning 12.17 (89) to 5.7 (37).

South Fremantle and Perth made the journey to Carnarvon and it was the Bulldogs who came from 31 points down just before half-time to beat the Demons by 37 in the end, 17.11 (113) to 11.10 (76).

Peel Thunder moved clear in fourth position with a strong win over East Perth 13.11 (89) to 7.11 (53) at Medibank Stadium while Claremont moved up from eighth spot to seventh beating Swan Districts 14.15 (99) to 6.9 (45) at Steel Blue Oval.

The Round 20 results leave Subiaco (14-4) clear on top of the WAFL ladder ahead of South Fremantle (12-5).

West Perth (11-7) remains third ahead of Peel Thunder (10-8) and East Perth (9-8).

East Fremantle (8-9) stays sixth after the bye ahead of Claremont (6-11), Perth (6-11) and Swan Districts (2-15).

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – MASON SHAW
Ever since his best on ground performance in the 2012 colts grand final win for South Fremantle when he kicked five goals have big things been expected of Mason Shaw as a key forward at senior level.

Port Adelaide was certainly hoping that he would provide them a strong, marking target in attack and it was never ability that stopped that from happening, but at no point over the last three years did Shaw's body give him a real chance of showing what he could do and press for an AFL debut.

So he returned to his original WAFL club South Fremantle in 2016 and his body has been sound, and he is delivering some outstanding football up forward in conjunction with a Bulldogs attack that includes Ben Saunders, Zac Strom, Blaine Johnson, Steven Edwards, Haiden Schloithe and Ryan Cook.

Shaw has now kicked 39 goals in his 17 matches of 2016 including five goals in Round 5 against Perth, another five in Round 15 against East Perth and then again on Saturday on Carnarvon he was outstanding with five goals to go with 20 possessions and 10 marks.

THE SHINING LIGHTS
Subiaco dominated its clash with West Perth at Kingsway Reserve on Saturday kicking 10 of the opening 12 goals on the way to the 52-point victory that locks away the minor premiership for a second straight year.

Subiaco's midfield ended up getting well on top with Leigh Kitchin leading the way with 32 possessions, nine inside-50 entries and a dominant performance at clearances.

Adam Cockie was also a standout performer at his bullocking best for the Lions finishing with 28 disposals, seven inside 50s, five tackles and two goals.

Chris Phelan had another tremendous performance for Subiaco with 29 possessions and a goal while Craig Hoskins also had 20 disposals and six tackles.

Despite Hamish Shepheard kicking just the one goal, Subiaco's forward-line was potent with Brad Stevenson playing his best game on return from a knee reconstruction with three goals from 18 possessions and nine marks.

Liam Ryan also booted two majors for the Lions and Clancy Wheeler was a good target at centre half-forward with 21 touches, five marks and a goal.

Subiaco's back-line was just as impressive with Declan Jackson and Aaron Heal holding Michael Lourey and Max Duffy goalless respectively. Greg Broughton also finished with 24 possessions, Jordan Lockyer 21 and Joel Latham 16.

It wasn’t a day to remember for West Perth and along the way, Drew Rohde left the field on a stretcher after copping a knee to the head from teammate Kody Manning before Aaron Black later suffered a nasty cut to the head in the second half, and then Shane Nelson went down with the most serious injury of the trio.

Nelson had a heavy and accidental clash with young Subiaco forward Liam Ryan that saw him go to hospital after the match, and end up what is an expected broken nose and fractured upper jaw.

Prior to getting hurt, Nelson was working hard once again in the midfield for West Perth and had 34 possessions. Black also fought through being run-with by Subiaco's Brett Mahoney to gather 21 disposals and lay five tackles.

Andrew Strijk kicked West Perth's first four goals of the game and worked hard in attack to end up with 22 possessions and 11 marks as well. Joe Morrow was the only other goal scorer after moving forward in the final quarter.

Dean Munns did another good run-with job for West Perth this time going to Subiaco captain Kyal Horsley and limiting him to 16 possessions but the Lions had far too many others who stepped up to have strong afternoons.

Rohan Kerr finished with 23 possessions for West Perth, Blake Wilhelm 19, Jay van Berlo 17 (10 hit outs, seven tackles) and Tyler Keitel 16 while also doing well to keep Subiaco spearhead Hamish Shepheard to just the one goal.

Peel Thunder might have lost in disappointing fashion last week against Claremont at home, but bounced back in style on Saturday with a 36-point win over East Perth at Medibank Stadium on the back of kicking 11 of the first 15 goals of the game.

Peel's midfield got right on top led by Matt de Boer who finished with 39 possessions, six marks and three tackles. Tendai Mzungu wasn’t far behind in best on ground honours ending up with 35 disposals, 11 marks and a goal.

Peel had plenty more midfielders who had big afternoons with Clancee Pearce gathering 26 possessions and nine marks, Rory O'Brien 25 disposals, six tackles and a goal, Andrew Haydon 24 touches, seven tackles and a goal, Connor Blakely 22 possessions and six tackles, and Nick Suban 20 touches and nine marks.

The Thunder's forward-line also showed they had plenty of goal kicking options with Matt Taberner responding well to being dropped by Fremantle by delivering 23 possessions, eight marks and two goals.

Small forward Traye Bennell played his best game with Peel since joining from South Fremantle kicking two goals from 14 disposals as well while ruckmen Jack Hannath and Jonathon Griffin kicked two goals apiece.

Hannath also had 17 touches, six marks and 13 hit outs while Griffin ended the afternoon with 13 touches, four marks, four tackles and 14 hit outs.

Peel's back-line stood firm as well led by Anthony Morabito racking up 26 possessions off half-back.

The Royals had been in strong form before Saturday having won their previous five matches prior to the bye to enter the top five, but it turned out to be a difficult afternoon.

Will Maginness did stand up to play his best game in two years for the Royals with 25 possessions and six marks while Luke Partington picked up 25 disposals, Lewis Jetta 23, Brant Colledge 21 and Tom Cole 20.

Key defenders Eric Mackenzie and Tom Gorter both finished with 18 disposals apiece for East Perth with Mitch Fraser also finishing with 17 touches.

Paul Johnson had a good game in the ruck with 20 possessions, eight marks and 19 hit outs while Jonathan Giles added 13 touches, 17 hit outs and two goals. Tom Lamb also kicked two majors from 16 disposals and eight marks for the Royals.

One shining light for East Perth was the debut of Sam Powell-Pepper who finished his first league appearance with 16 possessions, seven tackles and a goal.

East Perth's cause wasn’t helped with West Coast's Xavier Ellis injuring a calf early on and that has now led to him announcing his retirement from the AFL.

South Fremantle's attack was outstanding and highlighted how the Bulldogs' firepower could very well be the biggest threat to Subiaco winning a third straight WAFL premiership in 2016.

Mason Shaw kicked five goals from 20 possessions and 10 marks for South Fremantle with Ben Saunders also kicking four goals from 13 disposals and seven marks, and Haiden Schloithe three goals from 22 touches, eight marks and seven inside-50 entries.

Blaine Johnson also kicked another two goals for the Bulldogs with Steven Edwards returning to the team and working hard for 18 possessions and nine marks.

Brendan Verrier gave South Fremantle great run through the middle finishing with 28 possessions and eight marks while Dylan Main also earned his spot back in the line-up and racked up 27 disposals to go with eight tackles.

Jacob Dragovich also gathered 24 touches for the Bulldogs, Steven Verrier 21 (two goals), Marlion Pickett 20, Ryan Cook 19, Shane Hockey 19 and Blayne Wilson 17.

Perth delivered an outstanding first half and despite being overrun after half-time, there were plenty of positives for the Demons to take out of the contest.

Clint Jones was again outstanding in the midfield in his 101st WAFL appearance and his 17th for Perth after previously playing 84 with South Fremantle before his AFL career with St Kilda. He finished with 36 possessions which is just about his average for 2016.

Michael Sinclair also maintained his dominant form off half-back for the Demons with another 36 possessions and 16 marks.

Sandover Medallist Aidan Tropiano ended up with 22 disposals in the midfield and Julian Jacob 20 while ruckman Angus Graham ended up with 30 hit outs and a goal.

Up forward, Spencer White showed some good signs kicking two goals while captain Dene White chipped in with two majors as did debutant Cody Ninyette to go with 12 possessions.

Claremont dominated Swan Districts from the outset at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday with the Tigers kicking the only two goals of the first quarter, four to one in the second and then another eight to five in the second half to end up winning by 54 points.

There were dominant performers for the Tigers all over the field starting in the midfield with ruckman Mitch Andrews terrific with 19 possessions and 38 hit outs.

He ensured that his on-ballers were given every chance and they took full advantage with Simpson Medallist Jye Bolton finishing with another 40 possessions and 11 inside-50 entries.

Tom Shanahan played his best game in Tigers colours as well with 29 disposals, 24 of which were handballs, as he set up the Claremont runners.

Tom Ledger also finished with 26 possessions for the Tigers, Ryan Lim 26, Justin Speed 26 (seven tackles), Jared Hardisty 24, Morgan Davies 24 and Harrison McCracken 19.

Beau Maister continued his strong goal kicking form to finish the season as well with another five goals form 14 disposals and nine marks for the Tigers. He has now kicked 19 goals in his last seven matches of 2016.

It was a tough day again for Swan Districts but it wasn’t without some positives with Jacob Coniglio delivering one of the best games of his career with 26 possessions, six marks, four tackles and a goal.

Jacob Burnham also gathered 25 disposals for the black-and-whites, Adam Faulkner 25, Laurence Grescos 22, Matt Riggio 22 (seven tackles), Freddie Clutterbuck 19, Jesse Turner 19 (seven marks, five inside 50s) and Brandon Erceg 18 (eight marks).

RESERVES STANDOUTS
Then in the reserves at Kingsway Reserve, Subiaco also defeated West Perth with the Lions beating the Falcons 9.14 (68) to 5.8 (38).

Will Fetherstonhaugh and Ryan Borchet kicked two goals apiece for Subiaco with Matt Bogensperger racking up 34 possessions, Greg Clark 27, Max Walters 27, Shaquille McKenzie 26 and Fetherstonhaugh 24.

Corey Chalmers was the standout performer for West Perth finishing with 35 possessions and a goal.

Mitch Peirce also gathered 29 disposals for the Falcons, Brayden Antonio 24 and Scott Nelson 21.

East Perth's reserves scored a thumping 21.15 (141) to 7.3 (45) at Medibank Stadium over Peel Thunder.

Agid Gardoud, Daniel Perkins and Matthew Allen all kicked three goals apiece for East Perth with Scott Jones, Jamie Bennell, Tom Curtin and Nathan Eaton all booting two apiece as well.

Tom Omodei racked up 34 possessions for the Royals, Tom Hodgson 26, Will Young 26, Julian Ameduri 25, Callum Hart 23, Jordan Snadden 22, Perkins 22 and ruckman Jones 18 to go with his two goals and 49 hit outs.

Luke Shepherd kicked three of Peel's seven goals with Corey Morris collecting 25 possessions, Noah Hura 20 and Nathan Fahey 19.

While South Fremantle's league team was doing battle with Perth in Carnarvon, the reserves began the day back at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with the Bulldogs and Demons unable to be separated drawing with 12.11 (83) apiece.

Brendon Donaldson kicked three goals for South Fremantle with Jesse Mirco, Tom Vandeleur and Tim Stewart all kicking two apiece.

Stewart also had 28 possessions for the Bulldogs, Matthew Ah Siu 28, Bailey Matera 24, Blake Lee 18, Jake Florenca 18 and Brad McPhail 18 while young ruckman Tim English finished with 13 touches, seven tackles, six marks and 25 hit outs.

Bradley Keast, Matt Thompson and Callum Walley kicked two goals apiece for Perth while Fraser Millar gathered 24 possessions, Keast 23, Kodie Fleay 20 and Taran Etto 18.

Claremont's reserves also had a big victory over Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval, winning 17.18 (120) to 9.8 (62).

Jack Richardson kicked four goals for Claremont, Toby Plant three, Ben Higgs two and Mason Whitehead two.

Jake Murphy racked up 29 possessions for the Tigers, Jack Beeck 26, Keifer Yu 22, Bailey Banfield 21, Plant 20 and John Williams 18.

Albert Dean, Aidan Clarke and Chad Daniels booted two goals apiece for Swan Districts while Jackson Slater gathered 21 possessions, Ethan Maguire 21, Ben Gillard 17 and Matthew Rogers 17.

REDiMED COLTS RISING STARS
The colts got the action underway on Saturday at Kingsway Reserve with Subiaco beating West Perth 14.8 (92) to 6.6 (42) for its first win of the 2016 season.

Aaron Breman was tremendous for Subiaco kicking four goals to go with 19 possessions and five marks.

Jake Halligan also booted three goals for the Lions while Fraser Foley, Corey Young and Che Wyatt all kicked two.

Sean Foley gathered 23 possessions for Subiaco, Matthew Pannell 22, Koby Fullgrabe 19, Jye Harris 18 and David Purser 17 while ruckman Josh Chapman had nine touches, six tackles and 46 hit outs.

Kurt Monaghan kicked two goals for West Perth from 13 possessions and four marks.

Josh Hunter gathered 25 disposals for the Falcons, Josh Rotham 21, Alec Johnson 20, Jamie Dowen 19, Nick Marinovich 17, Zac Guadagnin 17 and Lachlan Sherriffs 17.

East Perth's colts defeated Peel Thunder 13.7 (85) to 6.6 (42) at Medibank Stadium.

Kane La Fontaine kicked four goals for the Royals with Matthew Young and Eric Bashemule chipping in with two apiece.

Conner De Campo racked up 31 possessions for East Perth, Mitch Dobson 26, Young 24, Alex Di Placido 23, Nathan Arbon 22, Tarir Bayok 22, Harry Blanch 21 and Jalen Hoffman 20.

Michael Stevens kicked three goals for Peel and Tom Boyle two with Stevens also ending up with 23 possessions, Cruze Wilson 20, Jakeb Shine 19, Jacob Perry 18, Aaron Naughton 18 and James Fenton 17.

The colts then were in action on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with Perth beating South Fremantle 9.15 (69) to 7.6 (48).

David Slater, Kobe Simpson and Joseph Ugle all kicked two goals each for the Demons while Ugle gathered 21 possessions, Cody Kickett 21, Bradley Pattison 20, Damien Bennell 17, Tyson Barron 17 and Arnold Punch 17. 

Shai Bolton kicked four goals from 17 possessions and five marks for South Fremantle with Jesse Mason also booting two majors.

Brodee Knight racked up 23 possessions for the Bulldogs, Bruno Faulkner 18, Boyd Woods 16, Daniel Burke 16 and Jacob Millar 15.

Claremont's colts began the day at Steel Blue Oval with a 45-point victory over Swan Districts, winning 13.10 (88) to 6.7 (43).

Nick Evans, Cooper Nitschke, Jeremy Goddard and Declan McNamara all kicked two goals each for Claremont.

Josh Houwen compiled 25 possessions for the Tigers, Jacob Sideris 23, Josh Bennett 21 and Ben Rushforth 16. Goddard also had 35 hit outs to go with his two goals, 10 touches and five marks.

Clinton Yarran booted two goals for Swan Districts with Greg Humphries amassing 21 possessions, Giles Dent 18, Tobe Watson 18 and Jack O'Sullivan 18
