SUBIACO further locked away top spot and South Fremantle consolidated second by winning at unusual home venues in Round 20 of the 2016 McDonald's WAFL Premiership Season while Peel Thunder went a long way to guaranteeing a finals berth beating East Perth.
All four matches took place on Saturday afternoon with wins for Subiaco, South Fremantle and Peel Thunder all improving their positions inside the top five while Claremont again showed it has been a season of a great missed opportunity with another big win.
Kingsway Reserve played host to the third grand final rematch of 2016 and it was Subiaco who dominated kicking 10 of the first 12 goals before winning 12.17 (89) to 5.7 (37) to remain two games and percentage clear on top of the WAFL ladder.
South Fremantle was 31 points behind Perth in Carnarvon just before half-time but the second placed Bulldogs dominated the second half with 13 goals to three to beat the Demons 17.11 (113) to 11.10 (76).
Peel Thunder moved a game clear in fourth position with an impressive 13.11 (89) to 7.11 (53) victory over East Perth at Medibank Stadium while Claremont was too good for Swan Districts prevailing 14.15 (99) to 6.9 (45) at Steel Blue Oval.
Starting with the grand final rematch at Kingsway Sporting Complex, it didn’t take Subiaco long to stamp its authority again over West Perth kicking four quick goals inside the opening 13 minutes despite the rain falling.
West Perth did get a goal just before the quarter-time siren to Andrew Strijk and then on half-time again to Strijk, but the Lions were in control by 24 points at the main break.
The Lions further dominated the third term with goals to Clancy Wheeler, Chris Phelan and Brad Stevenson. Despite Strijk kicking two more goals in the last term for West Perth and Joe Morrow chipping in, the Lions booted another four majors to run out thumping 52-point winners.
Subiaco's midfield got on top with Leigh Kitchin leading the way with 32 possessions while Adam Cockie was at his bullocking best with 28 disposals, five tackles and two goals. Chris Phelan also had 29 touches and Craig Hoskins 20.
Brad Stevenson played his best game of the season on return from a knee reconstruction with three goals from 18 possessions and nine marks with Liam Ryan and Simon Moore booting two goals each. Clancy Wheeler also had 21 touches, five marks and a goal.
Subiaco's defence was rock solid as well with Declan Jackson and Aaron Heal keeping Michael Lourey and Max Duffy goalless respectively while Greg Broughton had 24 touches and Jordan Lockyer 21.
Little went right for West Perth despite Strijk's performance up forward kicking four goals from 22 possessions and 11 marks.
Shane Nelson did rack up 34 disposals before going off in the final quarter and later going to hospital with a suspected broken nose and fractured upper jaw.
Dean Munns did another good tagging job holding Subiaco captain Kyal Horsley to 16 possessions while Rohan Kerr had 23 touches for West Perth, Aaron Black 21, Trent Manzone 21 and Blake Wilhelm 19.
Then in Carnarvon, it was goal for goal between South Fremantle and Perth in the opening quarter before the Demons kicked away in a tremendous second term with the first six goals to lead by as much as 31 points before the Bulldogs pulled back a late goal to Haiden Schloithe.
A loss could have put South Fremantle's second position in jeopardy but the Bulldogs came out inspired in the second half starting with an early goal to Zac Strom and then Ben Saunders' second.
Five goals then in the last 10 minutes of the third quarter saw the Bulldogs answer a couple of Perth goals emphatically but the Demons still clung to a one-point three quarter-time advantage.
It took 10 minutes for the first goal of the last quarter and that came to South Fremantle with Saunders booting his third. Mason Shaw then soon added his third and fourth of day, and Schloithe kicked his third in response to a Perth goal.
South Fremantle had all the answers, though, and Saunders ended up booting his fourth, Shaw his fifth and Steven Verrier his second as the Bulldogs ended up winning by 37 points after earlier trailing by 31.
South Fremantle's forward-line got on top more as the day went on with Shaw finishing with five goals from 20 possessions and 10 marks, Saunders four goals from 13 touches and seven marks, Schloithe three goals from 22 disposals and eight marks, and Blaine Johnson two goals.

Closer to home, Peel Thunder delivered a strong performance to beat East Perth by 36 points at Medibank Stadium to move clear of the Royals into fourth position on the WAFL ladder.
East Perth actually led by five points at quarter-time after kicking two goals to one but the Thunder got rolling in the second term with five goals to two to take a 12-point advantage into half-time.
Another five goals to nil in the third quarter and Peel had the win secure by the last break and went on to score the important and impressive 36-point victory.
Traye Bennell, Matt Taberner, Jack Hannath and Jonathon Griffin all kicked two goals apiece for Peel as their talls proved a big factor in the victory. Taberner responded to being dropped by Fremantle not only with the two goals but 23 possessions and eight marks.
Ruckmen Griffin (13 touches, 14 marks) and Hannath (17 disposals, 13 hit outs) had a good battle with East Perth's Paul Johnson (20 possessions, eight marks, 19 hit outs) and Jonathan Giles (13 disposals, 17 hit outs, two goals).
Matt de Boer was a dominant presence in the midfield for Peel racking up 39 possessions while Tendai Mzungu finished with 35 disposals, Clancee Pearce 26, Anthony Morabito 26, Rory O'Brien 25, Andrew Haydon 24, Connor Blakely 22, Nick Suban 20 and Josh Deluca 18.

Then at Steel Blue Oval the bottom two teams did battle but Claremont scored a thumping 54-point win over the wooden spoon bound Swan Districts with the Tigers only further highlighting the damage they would have been capable of if they made finals in 2016.
Claremont kicked the only two goals of the first quarter and then four goals to one in the second to be well on top leading by 28 points at half-time.
Swans did well in the third term matching the three goals from the Tigers but Claremont kicked another five goals to two in the final stanza to win by 54 points.
Beau Maister had a day out up forward for Claremont kicking five goals from 14 possessions and nine marks and he was the only multiple goal scorers of the match.
