Grand Finals bring out the best in Freo Dockers Schoolgirls Cup Tuesday, July 12, 2016 - 9:20 AM

On the back of an incredibly successful Term 2 Freo Dockers Cup competition, Darling Range Sports College and Bunbury SHS emerged victorious after taking out their respective divisions in the 2016 Freo Dockers Schoolgirls Cup.

In very tough conditions, Darling Range made amends for last year’s grand final defeat by proving too strong for Clontarf Aboriginal College, running out victors by 38 points. On route to the Grand Final, Darling Range defeated John Forrest SHS and Mater Dei College, whilst Clontarf defeated Lumen Christi College and Halls Head College.

After a week long battle against Pinjarra SHS, Northam SHS, Australind SHS and Bunbury CGS at Senior High Schools Country Week, a very slick and well drilled Bunbury SHS overpowered a gallant Newton Moore SHS to claim the Vanderweide division by 32 points.

Competition patrons Debbie White and Cathy Vanderweide were on hand to present the Freo Dockers Schoolgirls Cup and medallions to the players, coaches and umpires.

Emily McGuire (Darling Range), Pearl Coppin (Clontarf), Paige Urquhart (Bunbury SHS) and Kiara Templeman (Newton Moore) were awarded the match balls post game as recognition for being their schools' best players in their respective grand finals.

West Australian Football Commission (WAFC) Manager School and Junior Competitions Darren Davis said the WAFC appreciated the support received from the volunteers and staff who played a role in the delivery of school football.

"School sport is integral to the health of the game in WA and in the education and development of all students. We are fortunate to have the involvement of

Fremantle Football Club and School Sport WA and we thank them for their continued support.”
