State 16s convincing winners over Victoria CountryTuesday, July 5, 2016 - 10:28 AM

The DEPPRO WA State 16s recorded an impressive 43-point win over Victoria Country at Metricon Stadium in Round 2 of the AFL National 16s Championships on Monday, July 4.

Lead by a dominant game from captain Rylie Morgan which included 34 disposals, 8 clearances and 7 inside 50s, WA outscored Vic Metro five goals to two in the first quarter and extended their lead each quarter to win 13.16-94 to 7.9-51.

Livewire forwards Ian Hill and Sydney Stack led the way on the scoreboard with seven goals between them, while ruckman Xavier Peacock had 21 hit-outs to give WA first use of the ball.

Coach John Hancock said Louis Miller was also outstanding in defence and Jason Carter provide great outside run with a consistent effort across four quarters.

"Overall it was a terrific team effort. Our ability to run hard all day and outnumber them at the loose ball was outstanding," Hancock said.

"Vic Country had a very powerful performance against Vic Metro and they out-did us for size but the longer the game went on, to the credit of our backs, they changed their line-up and went smaller in the forward line as we took away their influence.

"Our defenders were resolute, our inside mids were relentless and we won a lot of contested ball then caused them grief with our outside run. There was great balance in all of these areas.

"Captain Rylie Morgan was a sensational leader throughout the game and his work ethic was a benchmark. Ian Hill and Sydney Stack were very sharp and lively with their vision and goal sense and kicked a couple of very clever goals.

"Xavier Peacock did a tremendous job in the ruck and Louis Miller was very good down back. His ability to beat an opponent and then use the ball on the way out was excellent.

"Jason Carter was also very dynamic with his run and put in a great performance for the whole game."

WA now shifts its focus to playing Victoria Metro at 8am WA time this Friday, July 8 at Southport.

Hancock said the professional preparation of the players and the way they had embraced recovery fundamentals would put them in a good position for another solid performance.

"The players are really looking forward to the next game. They are very determined knowing there's still work to do and also very focussed on enjoying the moment, regrouping and taking on Vic Metro," he said.
