WAAFL State U23 Amateur Team wins interstate matches Wednesday, June 8, 2016 - 1:26 PM

The West Coast Eagles U23 State Amateur Team defeated Queensland and Tasmania in separate interstate contests over the weekend.

The games were both played in wet and windy conditions, the first on Friday, June 3 at Leyshon Park in Queensland, and the second at Aurora Stadium in Launceston on Sunday, June 5.

The game against Queensland was the first between the two states at Amateur level and the conditions made it hard for either team to get clean possession of the ball.

Inaccurate kicking from Queensland in the third quarter allowed WA build a 14-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, which was maintained as the winning margin.

Jamie Rudrum was awarded Best on Ground for the WAAFL team.

The second game against Tasmania at Aurora Stadium in Launceston was played in similarly cold, wet and windy conditions.

The WAAFL made a fast start and wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. Three goals in the first quarter and another five in the second quarter put them ahead by 41 points at the main break.

It was enough secure victory for the WAAFL as Tasmania only managed two goals in the second half.

Jayden D’Vauz was named Best on Ground for the WAAFL and WA’s Luke Salomone was voted overall Best on Ground by the Umpires.
