SOUTH Fremantle and Subiaco both remain unbeaten after three rounds of the McDonald's WAFL Premiership Season with Perth getting on the board and Peel Thunder recording a second straight victory.
The Round 3 action began on Friday night at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with South Fremantle improving to 3-0 with a 16.13 (109) to 10.9 (69) victory over the still winless East Perth.
It was the International Football Festival at HBF Arena on Saturday with a crowd of just over 6000 watching on as Subiaco ran over the top of West Perth to win 17.15 (117) to 11.7 (73).
Also on Saturday, Perth came from behind to record its first win of 2016 beating Claremont 14.11 (95) to 12.6 (78) at Lathlain Park.
At Steel Blue Oval, Peel Thunder continued Swan Districts' horror start to 2016 with the Thunder running out 11.28 (94) to 6.6 (42) winners.
On Friday night at the port, East Perth started well in search of its first win of the year with two goals each to Fraser McInnes and Tom Lamb in the opening 14 minutes, but it then became the Ben Saunders show.
In a remarkable 11-minute period heading into quarter-time, he kicked five goals to help South Fremantle set up a match-winning advantage.
While East Perth did make a couple of runs back into the game and got within eight points, the Bulldogs had the answers and kicked the final four goals to win by 40 points.
On top of Saunders kicking five goals for South Fremantle, Steven Edwards was outstanding with three goals from 17 possessions and five tackles. Dylan Main and Mason Shaw kicked two apiece.
Haiden Schloithe was best afield with 34 possessions, nine tackles, seven marks and a goal while Ashton Hams racked up 32 disposals, Steven Verrier 21, Tim Kelly 19 and Shane Hockey 19.
Lamb ended up kicking four goals for East Perth with Craig Wulff, McInnes and Matthew Allen adding two each.
Chris Masten made a strong return from an ankle injury to amass 28 possessions on limited game time with Lamb also finishing with 23 touches, Kane Lucas 22, Callum Hart 21, Patrick McGinnity 19 and Mark Hutchings 18.
Then on Saturday, Perth recorded its first win since Round 19 last year but had to come from behind to do so against Claremont.
The Tigers appeared in control most of the afternoon leading by 22 points at quarter-time, 12 at half-time and three at three quarter-time.
But the Demons picked up the momentum in the third term and continued it in the last quarter with four goals to one to win by 17 points.
Clint Jones was again Perth's leading ball winner with 29 possessions to go with six tackles and he got plenty of support with Liam McKenna gathering 28 disposals, Julian Jacobs 28 and Aidan Tropiano 23.
Angus Graham did well in the ruck with 15 touches and 18 hit outs while Brennan Stack kicked three goals, McKenna two, Brett Wolfenden two, Spencer White two and Callum Walley two.
Aaron Zucconi was terrific as a key defender with the Demons keeping Beau Maister and Darcy Cameron to a combined four goals and 12 kicks after the pair dominated for Claremont in Round 1. It was the perfect way for Zucconi to celebrate his 100th match for Perth.
Oliver Tate kicked three goals for the Tigers to go with 18 possessions while Jye Bolton racked up 32 disposals and 13 marks.
Matthew Davies also had 29 touches and 11 marks for Claremont, Ryan Neates 25 disposals, Jake Murphy 22 possessions and 20 to Keifer Yu, Tom Ledger and Jared Hardisty.
Peel then made it consecutive wins beating Swan Districts by 52 points at Steel Blue Oval and only some poor kicking on goal stopped the Thunder from what could have been a significantly bigger victory.
The Thunder kicked just 11 goals from 39 scoring shots but still won well with Swans losing a third straight game for the year after going down to East Fremantle by 49 points and South Fremantle by 50.
Darcy Tucker, Matt Taberner and Matthew Uebergang all kicked two goals apiece for the Thunder while Gerald Ugle, Brayden Lawler and Taberner were the worst offenders in terms of accuracy with three points apiece.
Rory O'Brien was a dominant presence in the middle for Peel racking up 33 possessions and 11 marks while Lawler had 25 touches, Tendai Mzungu 25, Taberner 25, Ethan Hughes 23, Brady Grey 23 and Brad Walsh 20.
It was another tough day for the black-and-whites despite three goals to Ricky Cary and two to Jake Nuich. Adam Faulkner had 28 possessions, Graham Jetta 26, Aaron Elari 21 and Jesse Turner 20.
And finally on Saturday at HBF Arena, the grand final rematch saw Subiaco start strongly with the first three goals.
West Perth did hit back and with three quick goals to start the second half hit the front for the first time.
But that would also be only time the Falcons were in front with the Lions responding to the challenge to kick the next five goals, and 12 of the last 16 of the game to win by 44 points to stretch their winning streak to nine.
Without Kyle Halligan in attack, Subiaco needed others to step up and that's exactly what two of their signings over summer did with Ben Sokol booting four goals and Shaquille McKenzie three. Brett Robinson also kicked three to go with 28 possessions.
Captain Kyal Horsley racked up 27 possessions and eight tackles for the Lions with Adam Cockie collecting 26 disposals, Leigh Kitchin 25, Brett Mahoney 22 (while tagging Aaron Black), Chris Phelan 22, Craig Hoskins 21 and Hayden Kennedy 19.
West Perth captain Jay van Berlo worked hard for 25 possessions and 10 tackles while Aidan Lynch had it 27 times, Trent Manzone 25, Aaron Black 23 and Andrew Strijk 21. Seva Mozhaev played his first game since Round 23, 2014 and had 57 hit outs in the absence of Chris Keunen.
Michael Lourey kicked four goals for West Perth and Keegan Knott two.
