SUBIACO sent another message that it remains the WAFL team to beat with a Good Friday win to open Round 2 while South Fremantle also stayed undefeated on a record-breaking day at Steel Blue Oval.
The Easter Weekend got underway in front of a terrific crowd of 3408 at Medibank Stadium with Subiaco beating East Perth 13.15 (93) to 9.8 (62) on the back of kicking the last four goals of the game.
The other three matches took place on Saturday with South Fremantle beating Swan Districts 9.14 (68) to 2.6 (18) at Steel Blue Oval. That final score was the lowest Swans have ever recorded since entering the WAFL in 1934.
West Perth got its first win on the board for 2016 kicking the final five goals at HBF Arena to defeat Perth 12.12 (84) to 6.7 (43).
Peel Thunder also scored its first victory of the season with two late goals to beat East Fremantle 11.7 (73) to 9.16 (70) at Bendigo Bank Stadium.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – SHANE HOCKEY
Shane Hockey arrived at South Fremantle with a reputation during his VFL career with Frankston as a tough, hard at it and in and under midfielder.
He was most recently captain at the Dolphins before making the move west and joining the Bulldogs.
And after an impressive debut in Round 1 when South Fremantle beat West Perth at Fremantle Community Bank Oval, he delivered a best on ground performance in Saturday's 50-point win over Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval.
The wet conditions suited Hockey to a tee and he delivered 28 possessions, 10 tackles and six inside-50 entries.
Perhaps the greatest impact of Hockey to the Bulldogs' midfield is the help he is giving the likes of Ashton Hams, Tim Kelly, Haiden Schloithe, Steven Verrier, Jacob Martinez and Ryan Cook to play a variety of roles while Hockey does the grunt work winning the contested ball.
THE SHINING LIGHTS
Subiaco has won the last two WAFL premierships and started 2016 with a hard fought win over Peel Thunder last Saturday and backed that up with the solid 31-point Good Friday win giving them wins already over two teams that played finals in 2015.
East Perth has lost its opening two games but it was a vastly improved showing than last week's 76-point loss to Claremont.
Both defeats have been against finalists from last year with the Royals to now play South Fremantle at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Friday night.
Subiaco had 23 more inside-50 entries for the game than East Perth, including a run of 14 straight either side of quarter-time, and it was sixth-gamer Dylan Clarke who took most toll with three goals from 17 possessions.
Hamish Shepheard also kicked two goals for the Lions as did Kyle Halligan and Brett Robinson.
Up the other end, Subiaco key defenders Declan Jackson and Jordan Lockyer did a tremendous job limiting the influence of East Perth big men Fraser McInnes, Jonathan Giles and Paul Johnson when forward.
Through the middle, reigning Subiaco fairest and best Chris Phelan compiled 28 possessions to go with six inside-50 entries and a goal.
Leigh Kitchin also gathered 26 disposals, Kyal Horsley 21, Adam Cockie 20 (10 tackles), Robinson 20 and Craig Hoskins 19 (14 tackles).
Makeshift ruck pair Clancy Wheeler and Lachlan Delahunty also did well both in the middle and when forward. Wheeler finished with 18 touches, eight hit outs, five marks, five tackles, five inside 50s and a goal. Delahunty had 20 disposals, six marks and 15 hit outs.
Opposed to them, East Perth ruck pair Johnson and Giles were solid. Johnson was especially effective in the middle with 14 possessions and 24 hit outs. Giles wasn’t as productive but did kick two goals when forward.
Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls had a strong second half for the Royals and finished with three goals from nine possessions and six marks for the game.
Wingmen Steven Payne (25 possessions) and Tom Lamb (23 disposals) were both strong contributors for East Perth while Mark Hutchings racked up 23 touches, Kane Lucas 23, Paddy Brophy 19 and Luke Partington 19.
East Perth's key defenders put in strong performances with Tom Barrass having a good battle with Shepheard and having 18 possessions and nine marks.
Kyle Anderson had 17 touches and five tackles, and Nathan Blee 19 possessions with both doing well to limit the influence of Subiaco's Sean Bradley, Wheeler and Delahunty on the scoreboard. The trio kicked just one goal between them.
East Perth veteran Garry Moss was doing well providing good drive off half-back for 22 possessions but he suffered a cruel blow late in the game injuring his knee. It appeared he ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament which would mean the second knee reconstruction of his career.
The wet and wintry conditions didn’t trouble the Bulldogs at all and for new recruit Shane Hockey it suited him down to the ground. He finished the game with 28 possessions, 10 tackles and six inside-50 entries as South Fremantle beat Swan Districts by 50 points at Steel Blue Oval.
He received plenty of help in the middle as well with Ashton Hams picking up another 24 possessions to go with six tackles, five inside-50 entries and two goals.
Brendan Verrier worked hard for another 22 disposals and seven tackles with Steven Verrier finishing with 19 touches and nine tackles and Ryan Cook 17.
Zac Strom backed up his strong Round 1 game by splitting his time between centre half-forward and the ruck ending up with 17 disposals and 18 hit outs.
Down back, the Bulldogs were again rock solid with Marlion Pickett leading the way with 23 possessions and six inside 50s. Blayne Wilson also had 16 touches and seven marks.
Ben Saunders also kicked two goals for South Fremantle on a tough day for forwards.
It was a tough day for Swans as they recorded their lowest ever score but debutant ruckman Troy Yukich was one shining light with 50 hit outs to go with 12 possessions in the absence of Nathan Blakely.
Aaron Elari continued his impressive form for the black-and-whites with another 31 possessions while Freddie Clutterbuck gathered 26 disposals in his second game for the club.
Adam Faulkner also had 23 touches for Swans, Ben Whitsed 23 and Graham Jetta 20 to go with eight tackles.
Rudy Riddoch and Ricky Cary were the goal kickers for Swan Districts.
The Falcons kicked four of the last five goals of the first half, two to one in the third and then after being challenged early in the last, the final five goals of the contest to beat Perth 12.12 (84) to 6.7 (43) at HBF Arena.
That came despite Kody Manning being off injured and Chris Keunen, Rohan Kerr and Max Duffy battling complaints. However, the Falcons found something to beat Perth for a ninth straight time ahead of Saturday's grand final rematch with Subiaco back at HBF Arena.
With Shane Nelson still missing through injury, West Perth needed others to step up to win the hard ball especially with the way Jones was playing for Perth.
And it was 2014 Sandover Medallist and 2015 Breckler Medallist Aaron Black who did that in spades finishing with 33 possessions, six tackles and two goals.
He received plenty of help with Trent Manzone racking up 24 possessions to go with five inside-50 entries while Jay van Berlo had it 17 times and Aidan Lynch 16, but more importantly the pair laid 12 tackles apiece for the game.
Andrew Strijk also provided good drive again off half-back with 22 possessions to go with six tackles while Kerr finished with 19 touches, seven inside 50s, five tackles and a goal.
Before he hurt his knee when it was slid into in the third quarter, Chris Keunen was having a good battle in the ruck with Angus Graham. He did come back on in the last term to kick a second goal had 11 disposals, 22 hit outs and two majors.
Down back, Tyler Keitel had a strong presence with possessions, but he was the most physically imposing he's been in a WAFL game and also helped out in the ruck to good effect. Max Alexander did well keeping Perth recruit Spencer White quiet.
Clint Jones was perhaps the biggest WAFL signing over summer with the former South Fremantle dual fairest and best winner, and premiership player returning to the Demons after 149 AFL games with St Kilda.
And he sure had quite an impact in his first match with Perth racking up 45 possessions and eight tackles. His ability to find the ball was remarkable and the wet conditions where it was best suited to getting ball quickly to hand and foot was perfect for his style of play.
Zac Fisher is at the other end of his career than Jones with the 17-year-old making his WAFL debut and he did so in style with 23 possessions and two goals. More than his numbers, but his poise, skill and hardness despite a light frame was outstanding.
Angus Graham battled hard in the ruck as well for the Demons ending up with 11 disposals and 41 hit outs while Spencer White kicked two goals.
Down back, Jared Bell did well shutting down Max Duffy while Aaron Zucconi made a strong return holding Michael Lourey goalless.
The Demons also had several other strong ball winners with Julian Jacobs finishing with 25 possessions, Liam McKenna 25, Dene White 22 and Michael Sinclair 18.
Peel Thunder kicked the last two goals of young key position player Alex Pearce to come from behind and beat East Fremantle for its first win of 2016 at Bendigo Bank Stadium.
Tanner Smith stood tall in attack for Peel in difficult conditions kicking four goals while captain Gerald Ugle booted two.
Jack Hannath had a big game in the ruck in the absence of Zac Clarke finishing with 11 possessions, seven marks and 56 hit outs.
Peel's midfield took advantage of Hannath's dominance as well with Matt de Boer leading the way with 34 possessions and six tackles.
Ed Langdon also had 32 disposals and 10 marks for the Thunder, Rory O'Brien 26 touches, Darcy Tucker 22, Connor Blakely 21 and Sam Collins 19.
While down back Ethan Hughes was a strong contributor with 23 possessions and Josh Bootsma had 15 disposals and got forward to kick a goal.
East Fremantle looked on target to win a second straight game under new coach Rob Wiley to open 2016 but ultimately kicking just nine goals from 25 scoring shots proved costly.
Brett Peake continued his impressive return from retirement again being East Fremantle's most dangerous forward option kicking five goals while Josh Simpson chipped in with two majors.
Cameron Eardley was another Sharks player to continue his fine early season form with another 29 possessions and six tackles.
Liam Anthony also picked up 23 disposals, Sean Henson 23, Brock O'Brien 22, Tim Bristow 21, Jack Perham 21, Jamie McNamara 21, Jayden Schofield 20, Jesse Crichton 18, Sam Read 18 and Dion Anthony 18.
Andrew Stokes fought hard in the ruck up against Hannath and finished with 16 possessions and 21 hit outs.
