Round 5 Optus WAFLW Preview

THERE is a game each on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning in the WAFL Women's 2019 Optus Premiership Season with Claremont, East Fremantle and Subiaco looking to consolidate a top two spot, and Peel Thunder hunting their first win. It has been a fascinating opening four rounds of the inaugural WAFLW season and that has seen the top four teams East Fremantle, Subiaco, Swan Districts and Claremont all win two games apiece across the opening month. Peel Thunder might not have won a game yet but they have been competitive as well meaning there has been little separating the five teams in the competition which was a big reason why the league was started with the five teams to create for a tremendously competitive season. Round 8 Optus WAFL Preview

IT is WA Round in the WAFL with the two traditional massive derbies on Monday but before that is a tantalising Perth-Swan Districts standalone clash on Saturday afternoon and then two intriguing match ups on Sunday. The Round 8 WAFL action will be spread across the three days of the WA Day long weekend with all five matches saw to attract plenty of interest. The round gets underway on Saturday afternoon with a standalone clash between two teams who are creating a reputation for playing out nail-biters with one another. THERE were two heart stoppers in the Simply Energy Colts in Round 7 with Perth and Peel Thunder scoring thrilling victories by under a goal while East Perth and Claremont were the others to taste the winning feeling on Saturday. All four matches in Round 7 of the colts competition took place on Saturday and it saw Peel Thunder hold off West Perth in a thriller at Joondalup's HBF Arena. WA Football welcomes new healthy eating partnership

The West Australian Football Commission has welcomed a new two-year, $400,000 partnership with Healthway to promote the Go for 2&5 healthy eating message and provide healthier eating choices at junior clubs. Healthway joining as Principal Partner of junior football in WA will increase access to nutritious food and drink choices at junior football canteens, with clubs to receive access to training and support from the WA School Canteen Association to review their menus, and make any changes in line with nutrition guidelines. IT was quite the dramatic Round 7 in the WAFL on Saturday with Mitch Peirce and Zac Strom kicking the match-winners with the last kicks of their games for West Perth and South Fremantle respectively with impressive wins also for Subiaco, Swan Districts and East Fremantle. All five matches in Round 7 of the WAFL took place on Saturday afternoon with players delivering some scintillating individual performances and teams combining to play out some thrillers, and there ending up being some upset results. Swan Districts returned to the winner's list and ended a nine-game losing streak at Bassendean's Steel Blue Oval with a 10.10 (70) to 7.14 (56) victory over the West Coast Eagles with Matt Riggio delivering a best on ground performance. WAFC congratulates AFL Mid-Season Draftees

The West Australian Football Commission congratulates the four players selected in the 2019 AFL Mid-Season Draft, including number one selection Josh Deluca from Subiaco Football Club, and each of the WAFL clubs that have played a key role in their development. Deluca, who was selected by Carlton, was followed by Jack Mayo (Subiaco) at number 8 to St. Kilda, Dillon O’Reilly (East Fremantle) at number 11 to Fremantle and Marlion Pickett (South Fremantle) at number 13 to Richmond. WAFC CEO Gavin Taylor said each of these players was highly deserving of the opportunity to be added to an AFL club list and congratulated them on their selection. Read More ...

THINGS really tightened up in the inaugural WAFL Women's Optus Premiership Season on Saturday with Claremont and Swan Districts winning impressively to join Subiaco and East Fremantle on two victories so far in 2019. Both Round 4 matches in the 2019 Optus WAFLW Premiership Season took place on Saturday for the first time this campaign with each match playing as the lead-in to the WAFL contest at the corresponding venue. That saw the action begin on Saturday morning at Claremont Oval and it was Claremont recording its second win of the season, and handing Subiaco its first defeat, with the Tigers prevailing 5.1 (31) to 3.6 (24). SOUTH Fremantle and West Perth both won on Saturday in Round 7 of the WAFL thanks to kicking the last goal of the game to take the lead while Subiaco bounced back, East Fremantle made it consecutive wins and Swan Districts returned to the winner's list. It was a full day of fascinating WAFL action on Saturday afternoon in Round 7 of the 2019 Optus Premiership Season. South Fremantle was coming off the high of beating Subiaco but it took until the last kick of the game to big man Zac Strom for them to get on top of East Perth, with the Bulldogs winning 15.13 (103) to 16.6 (102) at Fremantle Community Bank Oval. BOTH matches in Round 4 of the Optus WAFL Women's Premiership Season takes place on Saturday this weekend and with East Fremantle having the bye, it's a chance for the other four teams to make a statement. East Fremantle has the bye in Round 4 of the WAFLW competition on the back of winning two of their first three matches of the season following their premiership triumph at league level in last year's WA Women's Football League. ROUND 7 of the 2019 Optus WAFL Premiership Season sees all five matches take place on Saturday afternoon with Subiaco trying to respond to a loss for the first time in over two years while South Fremantle tries to keep winning and East Fremantle attempts to make it consecutive wins. There are five matches in Round 7 of the WAFL and all have plenty of reasons to be fascinated by in a full round of Saturday fixtures ahead of the WA Day long weekend. Inspirational Bonser returns stronger than ever

HER attitude to having both knees reconstructed robbing her of playing in AFLW with the Fremantle Dockers was so inspirational that Emily Bonser has no doubt she's now a better person and footballer ahead of her debut with Claremont this Saturday in WAFLW. Bonser's life couldn’t have been going any better at the start of 2016. She was drafted to Fremantle and was about to make her AFLW debut while her studies to being a physical education teacher were going well, as was her work as a personal trainer. So to say the news that she would require a reconstruction to both knees and that her right and left anterior cruciate ligaments had ruptured hit her like a ton of bricks. Read More ...
