Round 4 WAFL PreviewFriday, April 19, 2024 - 10:11 AM - by Chris Pike

THERE are just two matches in Round 4 of the WAFL with Peel Thunder and Subiaco looking to keep winning, West Coast Eagles out for consecutive wins and Claremont looking to open its 2024 account.

Both Round 4 WAFL matches take place on Saturday afternoon beginning with the Eagles playing the Thunder ahead of the Western Derby at Optus Stadium.

Next up is Claremont taking on Subiaco at Revo Fitness Stadium with the Tigers still hunting a first win of 2024 after another heartbreaking one-point loss to South Fremantle while the Lions are looking for a third win in-a-row.

Subiaco spearhead Ben Sokol might be out with a calf injury but has kicked another seven goals in the first three games of 2024 as part of his 152-game, 337-goal WAFL career that has included three premierships and two Bernie Naylor Medal awards at the Lions.

He has played in 11 wins from 16 games against Claremont and while the Tigers are winless in 2024, Sokol is fully aware of their threat and just hopes the Lions can replicate how they played against Peel a couple of weeks ago even if he won't be out there.

"I still think they are one of the top teams in the competition even if their record so far doesn’t show it," Sokol said.

"But they've got some fantastic players still running around and have been unlucky in two of their three games so they quite easily could be 2-1 right now.

"This year is going to be one of the tightest competition in the WAFL since I've been playing and you would have to say almost every team will be pushing to make finals I would say.

"With Claremont, they've got some great midfielders and they are well spread all over the field too so to take them on it's important to be super physical at the source, and playing to our strengths starting by winning the inside ball.

"We'll focus on our entries and making sure we play the way we did against Peel where we were able to shut them down, and playing the footy we want to," Sokol added.

"But we know Claremont will be a great competition for us on Saturday and they do play really well on their home deck so we'll have to come prepared and hopefully get the four points over them."
