Regional Development Councils Unite for New Junior Football TraditionWednesday, October 11, 2023 - 9:48 AM

The Metro Central, Metro South, and Metro North Regional Development Councils (RDCs) united to celebrate the inaugural RDC Team of the Year Ceremony.

More than 500 club volunteers, participants and families gathered to celebrate the outstanding achievements of players throughout the Metro regions.

The highlight of the evening was the unveiling of three distinct jumper designs, each representing one of the RDCs.

These jumpers feature colours and elements that pay homage to their respective local WAFL clubs.

Like members of an All-Australian squad proudly donning their jackets, every player received their region's Team of the Year jumper, a proud moment recognizing their exceptional performances throughout the year.

Metro RDC Chairs Travis Burrows, Karren Wheatland, and Ian Brotherton, said the event was a wonderful experience to see all the districts come together to celebrate a successful season.

"It was truly gratifying to collaborate and inaugurate the very first RDC Team of the Year Ceremony,” they said.

“Witnessing the celebration of numerous promising young participants, adorned in our region's brand-new jumper, was an absolute delight.”

Corey Ranger, Head of Club Development & Volunteers RDC Executive Officer – Central, South & North, believes the initiative was a resounding success.

“On the night, over 133 players and 8 coaches were inducted into their regions as part of the ‘Team of the Year’ ceremonial squads,” Ranger said.

Selection was a significant achievement for those recognised.

“For a number of them, it was a very fitting conclusion to their community junior football journey,” he said.

The night also featured the announcement of the team's captains and coaches, with an engaging on-stage interview where they shared insights into their football journeys and highlighted memorable moments from the season.

Throughout the season, the RDCs have undertaken a substantial campaign to reinvest in their region through a variety of initiatives.

The RDCs have invested over $100,000 into junior community football through a dedicated club grants program and formed valuable partnerships with their local WAFL clubs.

The RDC’s attention now turns to the 2023 Club and Volunteers Awards of Excellence events, which are scheduled for the Pan Pacific Hotel this coming Friday and Saturday.
