South West Claims Fourth Consecutive Women’s Country ChampionshipMonday, October 9, 2023 - 2:27 PM

The South West have continued their remarkable run at the Nutrien Ag Solutions Country Football Championships, winning the Rio Tinto Division One Premiership at Lane Group Stadium in Mandurah.

South West recorded a 16-point victory over Kimberley in the Grand Final, continuing their dominance of the competition.

But for the first time in the Championship’s history, South West suffered a defeat, going down to Great Northern in Round 2 by 3 points.

In a major change to the format of the Championship the event was split into two divisions with more than 200 players representing 8 sides converging on Mandurah.

Peel created history by claiming the inaugural Division Two Grand Final, defeating North Pilbara by 25 points.

North Pilbara’s appearance in the premiership decider was also a major success after the side won its first ever match at the Championship, enjoying a 41-point victory over Esperance on day one, followed by a 28-point triumph over Goldfields.

Tom Bottrell, Executive Manager Country Football, Affiliates & Facilities at the West Australian Football Commission, believes the introduction of the two Divisions was a resounding success.

“The Championship produced some terrific matches with players from regional WA turning the event into a festival of footy,” Bottrell said.
