The West Australian Football Commission (WAFC) is the peak Australian Rules Football body in Western Australia and is the caretaker of football throughout the State and responsible for the overall development of the game. The WAFC is a not for profit organisation that plays an important role in funding the on-going development of football in all communities. This ensures that football is the best resourced sporting code in the State and can have the most active role in building better communities through various development programs.
The new WA Talent Model has been developed by the WA Football Commission in partnership with the AFL and the nine WAFL Clubs and represents one of the key reforms from the WAFC’s Structural Review of Football, which was launched in March 2017. This Model will see player development aligned with the AFL’s National Framework and Talent Development Philosophy, to provide WA’s most talented players with the best possible chance to play at the elite AFL level or in the nation’s best State League competition, the WAFL.
The Talent Manager role is integral to the establishment of the new WA Talent Model. This role will have responsibility for the effective identification of talented players within each WAFL zone and also the planning, implementation and monitoring of the club’s player development program. The role will require outstanding stakeholder management skills, strong understanding of athlete development principles and excellent planning and communication capability.
