Athlete Development Manager (12 Month Fixed Term Contract)

The West Australian Football Commission (WAFC) is the peak Australian Rules Football body in Western Australia and is the caretaker of football throughout the State and responsible for the overall development of the game.

The WAFC is a not for profit organisation that plays an important role in funding the on-going development of football in all communities. This ensures that football is the best resourced sporting code in the State and can have the most active role in building better communities through various development programs.

We have an opportunity for an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join our team as Athlete Development Manager.  The role is accountable for the delivery of state of the art, safe, efficient and effective athlete body management practices within the WA Talent Pathway.  In addition, the role will be responsible for establishing strength, conditioning, recovery and rehabilitation protocols, as well as, accurate and timely information management relating to player physical welfare and development.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the physical development and wellbeing of WA players moving between National Academy/State Academy and WAFL teams;
  • Setting and maintaining minimum standards for strength and conditioning in the WAFL pathway system; and
  • Meeting AFL Academies Athlete Management Benchmarks.

Essential selection criteria

  • Bachelor Degree in Exercise Science (or equivalent).
  • Minimum 3 years’ practical experience in high performance sport.
  • Level 1 certification ASCA.
  • Demonstrated ability to micro plan a sequential training program based on player management and conditioning outcomes for talented youth players.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of GPS technology.
  • Current Working with Children Check (or evidence of application).

Desirable selection criteria

  • Masters Degree in Exercise Science (or equivalent).
  • Level 2 certification ASCA.
  • Experience in similar role.
  • Current first aid certificate.
  • Demonstrated experience in the conditioning, recovery and rehabilitation of talented footballers.
