Round 7 McDonald's WAFL Wrap UpTuesday, May 5, 2015 - 1:14 PM - by Chris Pike

THE youngsters of Swan Districts and South Fremantle both helped lead their teams to bounce back victories in Round 7 of the WAFL on Saturday while Claremont got its first win on the board of the season and Subiaco extended its lead atop the ladder.

Swan Districts recorded a terrific 18.16 (124) to 11.11 (77) victory at Bassendean's Steel Blue Oval over a Peel Thunder team that was on the back of a four-game winning streak for the first time in the club's history.

South Fremantle started its season with three straight wins, then lost the next three coming into Saturday's clash with East Perth at Medibank Stadium. Like Swans, the Bulldogs had just a five-day break to try and bounce back from and did so impressively beating the Royals 11.16 (82) to 10.9 (69).

Subiaco moved a game clear on top of the ladder with an 8.15 (63) to 3.9 (27) win over Perth at Lathlain Park while Claremont got its first win of the season beating West Perth 12.11 (83) to 8.15 (63) at the Claremont Showground.

Subiaco (5-1) sits on top of the ladder after seven rounds ahead of Peel Thunder (4-2), East Fremantle (4-2), South Fremantle (4-3) and Swan Districts (3-3). East Perth (3-3) is just outside the top five followed by West Perth (3-3), Claremont (1-5) and Perth (1-6).

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Swan Districts captain Tallan Ames has played 217 matches for the black-and-whites since making his debut in 2002, but it's unlikely the 30-year-old has ever been in better form.

Ames has played in the 2010 premiership and won a fairest and best award with Swan Districts, but continues to be the standout key defender in the WAFL and he picked up another scalp on Saturday in the big win over Peel.

Fresh off doing a terrific job on West Perth's Michael Lourey on Monday following quieting East Fremantle's George Hampson after his stunning first quarter and-a-half, Ames got the job on Peel's Michael Apeness on Saturday and kept the dangerous Fremantle big man goalless.

Ames is leading his young team from the front admirably and not only will he be a lock for the WAFL State team to play the SANFL on Saturday May 23 at Lathlain Park, but he is looming as the likely choice to captain the WA team.

THE SHINING LIGHTS
Swan Districts put aside the disappointment of losing to West Perth last Monday after leading by 26 points heading into time-on of the last quarter to get off a fast start against the in-form Peel Thunder, and end up winning by an impressive 47 points.

While Swans' senior players stepped up, the excitement came in the form of the youth blooded by the black-and-whites with seventh-gamer Jason Daniels outstanding with 26 possessions and a goal.

Ben Whitsed then made an impressive debut with 19 disposals while Levi Ridley also gathered 17 disposals, David McKay 13, Dylan Nelson 11 and Warrick Wilson 16.

Second-gamer Jacob Dragovich was again outstanding for the Bulldogs with his appetite for the contest and he contributed 19 disposals, six inside-50 entries and a goal while third-gamer Simon Panizza did well shutting down East Perth co-captain Brendan Lee before he went off with a tight hamstring.
