2015 State Female AFL TeamsThursday, December 11, 2014 - 12:46 PM

Are you interested in representing your state in the fastest growing female sport – AFL? Then read below to find out the wonderful opportunities that may exist for you in 2015!

State 16’s Schoolgirls

The State 16s have been playing in the SSA National Carnival since 2009. In 2014 the WA girls again made the grand final but lost to the Victorian team by a small margin. State 16s is an ideal stepping stone for further State representation and is the first opportunity for many girls to be involved in a high performance set-up. In 2015, the team will be travelling to Geelong, Victoria and will be looking to win back the championship trophy!

State U18 Youth Girls

The State U18 Youth Girls have played in the National Carnival for the past 5 years and produced a crushing defeat of Victoria in the 2014 grand final to win the National trophy in that age group for the very first time. The U18YG program is a precursor to the Open Women’s team.  In 2015, WA will be hosting the AFL National U18 Youth Girls Championships in Mandurah, WA. A chance to complete back to back wins is very possible.

Open Women

The State Women last played in the National Championships in 2013, where they finished 2nd to Victoria. In 2015 a new concept will see the Women only face 1 team – Victoria here in Perth on the big stage before the Richmond and Fremantle game on June 5, 2015. In hosting this event we are confident we will have the strongest WA team that we have ever had and our best chance ever to defeat the Victorians. Our 15 Exhibition players demonstrate the depth of talent we are developing in WA and with a raft of U18 Youth Girls now qualifying for the Open Women’s team they are “hungry” for more success after beating the Vics in 2014.
