Geraldton Youth Girls Festival of FootballFriday, September 19, 2014 - 3:56 PM

The WA Football Commission in conjunction with the Midwest Gascoyne Murchison Regional Football Development Council Proudly presents Geraldton Youth Girls Festival of Football.

Head down to Greenough Oval 9am on Saturday the 18th October to join in the fun and meet some of the super star Women’s AFL players from Melbourne FC and Western Bulldogs FC.

Renee Forth who grew up in Geraldton and now living in Perth played her first season in the WAWFL in 2011. In her first year she was selected to represent WA in the Women’s National Championships, now in just her fourth year Renee has played in two Women’s Open National Championships and has played in both of the AFL Women’s matches after being re-drafted this year as draft pick #15 to represent Melbourne Football Club.

“I am looking forward giving back and helping girls from the Midwest region that I was lucky enough to have called home for 19years. Not only is it great to give young girls the opportunity I never had in the Midwest, but mainly make them all aware of the pathways and opportunities ahead.”

“Although the pathways at the moment for females aren't to the extent of the males pathways, there is still the chance for the girls to play the game they love with their friends. I hope the turn out is large and the girls get as much out if it as I'm certain we will!” Forth said.

Allana Dickie; Female Football Coordinator for the WA Football Commission, who too grew up in a country town is very passionate about development of Female Football, and providing the opportunities for everyone to be able to play. “Growing up in Newman I played football with the boys and when I was 13 I wasn’t allowed to play football anymore, I am so lucky to now be working in Female Football and helping provide the opportunity for girls to play so they don’t have to miss out like I did.”

Travelling from Perth a number of the Melbourne FC and Western Bulldogs FC Women’s players will run clinics throughout the high schools to promote the Youth Girls Festival of Football throughout the week.
