THE 2014 WA Women’s Football League Finals kicks off this weekend with a double header at Dianella Open Space, showcasing the premier talent of the WAWFL in must win matches.

After finishing the season in first and second place respectively, the Second Semi Final pits rivals Coast Titans and Swan Districts against each other once again, this time with a spot in the Grand Final on the line.

The two sides have been the powerhouses of the WAWFL for the past two years and have developed a strong rivalry, culminating in the 2013 Grand Final.

Having never won a Division One Premiership, Swan Districts upset the Titans to claim their first flag and stamp themselves as the new WAWFL powerhouse.

Since that Grand Final the sides have met three times so far this season and amazingly the result has never been greater than 6 points.

The Titans won bragging rights at the start of the year when they defeated Swan Districts by one goal, but roles were reversed when the teams met again in Round 7 as Swan Districts came from five points down at half time to steal a three point victory.

In their latest encounter in Round 12 it was the Titans turn to come from behind, keeping Swan Districts goalless in the second half to overturn a 29-point half time deficit to win by two points.

A win would put either side in the box seat to claim the 2014 flag, a second in the row for the Swans or a record seventh flag for the Titans.

While the winner would be in the box seat to create history, the loser will go on to play in a Preliminary Final against the winner of the other Semi Final between East Fremantle and Peel Thunderbirds.

Like the Titans and Swan Districts, East Fremantle and Peel have been neck and neck for the majority of the year, jostling third and fourth on the ladder.

After playing to extra time in the 2013 First Semi Final, East Fremantle and Peel have developed a strong rivalry, highlighted by several close encounters over the past two seasons.

In their first encounter of the season Peel narrowly defeated East Fremantle by six points but since then East Fremantle has asserted their authority with 45 and 31 point victories in rounds 7 and 12 respectively.

Despite those losses, Peel will be confident they can cause an upset having pushed the Sharks in the corresponding game last year and taking the points against them in Round 1.

If they do manage to cause an upset and defeat the Sharks they will be just one win away from their first Grand Final appearance, while a loss means curtains on season 2014 for either side.

All fixtures can be found below with the Reserves First and Second Semi Finals starting at 12pm and the League First and Second Semi Finals starting at 2pm. The WAFC Youth girls Semi Finals begin at 10.30am.
