Celebrating Go for 2&5 Junior Football Grand Finals Thursday, September 24, 2020 - 3:08 PM

More than 100 junior football Grand Finals will be held across Western Australia this weekend in an exciting culmination to one of the most unprecedented seasons on record.

After being postponed due to the impact of COVID-19, the abbreviated season has seen 93% of junior players return to football ovals around the State to reconnect with their clubs and teammates.

Key engagement strategies and a clear Return to Play Roadmap implemented by the WA Football Commission have resulted in this being the highest return to play rate of any State in Australia.

WAFC CEO Gavin Taylor thanked all of the volunteers and officials who had supported clubs and competitions to make this possible.

"It has been great to see all of the juniors back playing football and enjoying the associated health and wellbeing benefits. Congratulations to the teams that have qualified for Grand Finals and special thanks to Principal Partner of WA junior football, Healthway, for their valuable support during a challenging season," he said.

Healthway will celebrate junior Grand Finals this weekend by providing free fruit to selected club canteens to promote the Go for 2&5 healthy eating message and encourage healthier eating choices among junior footballers and their families.

Heathway Director of Health Promotion, Julia Knapton, said we are fortunate in Western Australia to provide junior footballers around the state with an opportunity to pull on their boots this weekend for the final round of footy.

“As part of our Go for 2&5 healthy eating partnership with the WA Football Commission, kids are encouraged to eat healthy snacks before, during and after games.”

“This weekend, more than 3000 pieces of fruit, across 11 football grounds will be available through club canteens for players to do just that,” Ms Knapton said.
