Robertson claims Larke Medal Wednesday, July 3, 2019 - 5:37 PM

WA captain Deven Robertson has claimed the Larke Medal as the best player in this year’s AFL U18s National Championships.

The Perth product led WA to their first Championship victory in 10 years, whilst breaking the record for total disposals during the four-game carnival.

The midfielder finished with 28 touches, six clearances and six i50’s in the final fixture against Vic Country. Adding to his three previous games of over 30 disposals.

Robertson, nephew of former West Coast Eagle Darren Glass, joins the likes of Stephen Coniglio, Oscar Allen and David Swallow as Western Australian winners of the award.

The youngster has been instrumental in Western Australia claiming the U18s crown, becoming the sixth WA recipient of the award in the last 11 years.

Ironically, Number #1 draft pick Sam Walsh was the previous record-holder for total disposals at the Championship, with Robertson’s final handball overtaking the 118 accumulated by Walsh.

Robertson was thrilled to receive the coveted award, but couldn’t be more pleased to gain a Championship.

“It’s nice,” Robertson said.

“It is a privilege to win it definitely, but the championship is what we came for. We were lucky enough to kick a goal late and win it.”

“10 years, it’s been a long time coming.”

“To bring the cup back to WA is an amazing honour.”

Luke Jackson was equally impressive throughout the campaign, finishing second to his captain in the Larke Medal standings.
