THERE were plenty of standout match-winning performances across Round 3 of WAFL Colts action over Easter with victories for Peel Thunder, Swan Districts, Claremont and West Perth.

The Easter Round in the WAFL Colts began on Good Friday at Mandurah's David Grays Arena with Peel Thunder defeating East Fremantle 10.11 (71) to 6.6 (42).

Then on Saturday, Swan Districts beat Perth 10.12 (72) to 6.6 (42) at Bassendean's Steel Blue Oval while Claremont opened its account for 2019 beating East Perth 10.8 (68) to 6.5 (41) at Leederville Oval.

The round then concluded on Sunday at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with West Perth winning a thriller over South Fremantle, 9.7 (61) to 8.7 (55).

The Round 3 results mean that Swan Districts improves to a perfect 3-0 record while Peel Thunder is also undefeated at 2-0.

East Fremantle and West Perth both hold 2-1 records while Claremont and East Perth are 1-2. Perth is 1-1 while South Fremantle has lost its first three games and Subiaco has lost its first two.

PEEL THUNDER 10.11 (71) defeated EAST FREMANTLE 6.6 (42)

Peel Thunder's colts began proceedings on Good Friday at David Grays Arena with an impressive 29-point victory over East Fremantle.

Peel had started the season well with a Round 1 victory against West Perth while East Fremantle had won its opening two games against Subiaco and Claremont setting the stage for a battle between undefeated colts sides on Good Friday in Mandurah.

It was a tight opening quarter with East Fremantle managing to kick two goals to one to lead narrowly by four points at quarter-time.

The Thunder then booted three goals to one in the second term to go into half-time with an eight-point advantage.

It was three goals apiece in the third quarter before Peel pulled away in the last stanza with three goals to just one East Fremantle behind for the Thunder to run out 10.11 (71) to 6.6 (42) winners.

Tyrone Thorne showed why he's thought of so highly by future recruiters kicking three goals for Peel to go with 13 possessions, eight tackles and six marks.

Zac Pankin also kicked two goals for the Thunder while Jackson Knight collected 20 possessions, Jarvis Pina 19, Andrew Butler 18 and ruckman Brendan Cooke 14 to go with 29 hit outs, eight tackles and four entries inside the forward 50.

Trent Rivers racked up 25 disposals for East Fremantle, Chad Warner 25 (10 tackles), Jai Jackson 23 (12 tackles), Michael Wright 21, Lachlan Taylor 18 and Trey Ruscoe 18.

 

SWAN DISTRICTS 10.12 (72) defeated PERTH 6.6 (42)

Swan Districts continued its perfect start to the colts season beating Perth by 30 points at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday morning.

On the back of having already beaten South Fremantle and East Perth to start the colts season on the back of reaching last year's Grand Final, it's been a perfect start to 2019 under new coach Simon Bergin.

Swan Districts made a flying start kicking the only goals of the first quarter but Perth hit back in the second term five goals to one themselves and scores were all square at half-time.

Swans were able to keep the Demons goalless again in the third quarter while kicking three goals themselves. The Black Ducks then added two more goals to one in the last term to run out 10.12 (72) to 6.6 (42) winners.

Bailey Kane kicked three goals for Swan Districts from 10 possessions, seven hit outs, six marks, four tackles and four inside-50 entries. Jamison Ugle also kicked two goals.

Zane Trew produced a standout performance for the black-and-whites racking up 40 possessions to go with 10 tackles, four marks and four inside-50 entries.

Kade Wallrodt also compiled 24 possessions, Jak Watson 23 (13 tackles), Seb Bright 21 (eight tackles, eight inside 50s), Ashley Brockbernd 19, Ben Taylor 18, Brenton Hilton 18, Brock Fisher 18 and Ryan Letessier 16 to go with 31 hit outs.

Oscar Morcombe kicked two goals for Perth while Regan Clarke gathered 26 possessions, Cain Evans 23, Tarkyn Brogan-Henry 21, Simon Hayward 20 (13 tackles), Elijah Taylor 20 and Zac Sanderson 19.

 

EAST PERTH 6.5 (41) lost to CLAREMONT 10.8 (68)

Claremont recorded its first win of the 2019 colts season on Saturday beating East Perth by 27 points at Leederville Oval.

The Tigers came into the game having started the season with losses to East Fremantle and West Perth while the Royals had won their Round 1 clash against Subiaco before losing the previous Saturday to Swan Districts.

The colts contest was played as the curtain-raiser to the league clash on Saturday at Leederville Oval and it was the home team on fire early.

East Perth dominated the first quarter kicking the only three goals of the first team but Claremont fired right back in the second term with five goals. The Tigers held the Royals scoreless for the second quarter to lead by 12 points at half-time.

The Royals worked back into the contest during the third quarter to only trail by eight points at three quarter-time. But Claremont again took over going to the scoring end with four more goals to one to win 10.8 (68) to 6.5 (41) to open their account for 2019.

Liam Henry was the standout player of the game and led Claremont to the victory finishing with 24 possessions, five marks and four goals.

Jacob Blight also kicked two goals for the Tigers with Jye Clark ending up with 29 disposals, Jack Cooley 25, Louis Passera 25, Cameron Anderson 22, Jack Buller 20, Leno Thomas 19, Tom Wolfe 19 and Charlie Malone 18.

Harley Sparks continued to impress for East Perth with another strong display made up of 28 possessions, five tackles, four marks, three inside-50 entries and a goal.

Kane Hughes also gathered 26 disposals for the Royals, Josh Hubbard 21, Reuben Pasalich 19, Blake East 16, Luke Lombardi 16 and Jamie Marinoni 16.

 

SOUTH FREMANTLE 8.7 (55) lost to WEST PERTH 9.7 (61)

West Perth's colts won its second game in succession handing South Fremantle a third consecutive defeat to open the 2019 season at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Easter Sunday.

The game was played as the curtain-raiser to the league fixture at the port on Sunday and it would be West Perth that won its second game of the season in a nail-biter.

South Fremantle started the season with a similarly heartbreaking loss to Swan Districts and now the Luke Tedesco-coached Bulldogs are 0-3 despite having played some impressive football over the opening three rounds.

It was two goals apiece between South Fremantle and West Perth in the opening quarter, before the Falcons kicked three goals to two in the second term to see them go into half-time leading by six points.

There was a goal apiece again in the third quarter with West Perth leading by five points before South Fremantle dominated the opening parts of the last term.

Goals to Cailem Narkle, Lachlan Johnson and Adam Correia saw the Bulldogs open up a 14-point lead 10 minutes into the fourth quarter. 

But West Perth then responded with the last three goals of the game through Rohan Scurria, Koopah Todd and Jaxon Prior to secure the 9.7 (61) to 8.7 (55) victory.

Jaxon Prior not only kicked the winning goal for West Perth but finished the game with 28 possessions, four marks, four inside-50 entries and two goals. Taylor Ashworth kicked two goals as well for the Falcons.

Koopah Todd also racked up 29 possessions, Tyron Hindmarsh 25, Heath Chapman 25, Ben Johnson 17, Callum Johnson 17, Ryan Hudson 17, Jack Kermode 16 and Zak Patterson 15 to go with 17 hit outs and six marks.

Cailem Narkle kicked two goals from four kicks for South Fremantle with Nathan Spooner also kicking two majors.

George Wessels compiled 28 possessions for the Bulldogs to go with 10 marks, six tackles and six inside-50 entries.

Jacob Sax also had 24 disposals, Jarrod Salmeri 23, Toby McQuilkin 20, Jaxon Bellchambers 20 and Jack Musika 19.
